There are many things I wish bloomilk did and bloomilk didn't have, but there has never been anyone to change that. So I listened to Michael Jackson's Man in the Mirror twice, and became convinced to start this project

So I have been in the development stages of my website that is a Bloomilk alternative.

The website is called Green Milk, and it aims to replicate Bloo Milk in most ways, with the bonuses of:

- Active development
- Additional features (waiting for feedback, but I have some ideas already)
- And possibly upcoming app support (could include things like a skirmish timer and point counter etc)

You may know that shinja has somewhat abandoned bloomilk, leaving us with bugs, outdated design. The primary goal is to continue support for the SWM community, because having a site without a developer is annoying but could also potentially mean the site going down entirely

I'm not making any promises yet, but it is very possible that you will be seeing updates on this site of mine, and a live beta version of the website may be coming out soon.

The main reason I am posting this for is that I would love to hear all of your ideas for the website right now. When the first version comes out I'm wondering whether anyone would actually consider switching to it, and what features would pull you over the line, so this is just the best way of asking. Since its in early development phase, PLEASE give me feedback and suggestions, I really want to know what you would love to see, and what you would hate to see.

Additionally, I haven't figured it out design wise. Should I keep it the same, with almost nothing unchanged, or should I switch it up, or maybe instead keep the fundamental design, but with new colours and theming? There's a few variations. Please advise.

ps: If anyone has any alternative (maybe more original) names they thought of, that would be great.

I applaud your efforts of trying to get SWM up to speed, but I don't love the idea of trying something other than Bloomilk tbh. If you're a developer, maybe you could talk to gandalf or whoever runs the ship now about taking a crack at fixing things here? Just my 2 cents.

First, I think it's awesome that you've been working on this project! I'm very intrigued.

I haven't really thought about it very much, but after reading this, the only major thing I think that Bloomilk is currently missing is a functional Rapport in the squadbuilder. A better Search function could also be a big help. It could be that there are more tweaks that would bring a significant improvement to the quality of life for our community, but those are the only things that pop for me right now.

Here are some things that I think a new website would need to have, and without which I wouldn't even consider changing over:

--A fully functional squadbuilder, like what we have right now. Obviously, the Rapport system should work better than this one does. But the functions of building, saving, searching, etc, etc...those are incredibly important. In particular, the entire Characters->Search function (complete with a checkbox to include/exclude specific special abilities) is incredibly important for new character design...it's important that we can search for characters in a certain Cost range, with certain parameters (non-unique, with ability X and not ability Y). We have so many pieces in the game, and so many formats in which to play, that a fully functional squadbuilder is a non-negotiable.

--A forum system that allows for different headings: General, Events, Rules, Off-Topic, Maps, etc. Having all of the topics in one huge pile would be a major No from me. For example, when setting up a Vassal Regional event, it's very helpful to be able to scroll back through previous Events to search for the intro post to the previous such event (same for VassalCon, etc). It would be really nice if there was a robust Search feature for the discussion forums too (to search by title, poster, date range, etc).

--It's not such a big deal for me, but I know that for many other people it would be important to have a smooth (and reliably stable) collection tracking system would be important. Some people want to grow or expand their collections, and currently BM enables them to track those things in real time. Very important.

Obviously, I'm just one voice, but my guess is that most active players would be looking for these features.

If it could be made into an app too, that would be great! But even without an app, I'm sure that with today's tools you could design something that is much more mobile-friendly than BlooMilk ever was.

I think that we could probably come up with a better website name than GreenMilk. BlooMilk was a smooth connection to the movies, but GreenMilk is just derivative and doesn't really mean anything to anyone unless they're already familiar with BM. Maybe the Galactic Holonet, or Jedi Archives, or Korriban's Core, or anything else (probably far better than these wimpy suggestions) that is in some way connected to the vast SW canon that we all know so well. Maybe this would be something to bring to the community for brainstorming and discussion.


I'm interested to hear more as this thing develops.
