AWESOME!!!

thanks for this post.

Crazy that the top 3 all have act control. Two of them have"optional" act control.

Act control dominates again!

Mando did so well I am thinking maybe we will see them again.

Of the top three squads, 29/41 listed pieces are from WOTC.

Very interesting list. It is noteworthy that act control was the top 3 squads. Republic are always so close to it. I think they may actually be the best faction in the game. They have answers to act control. The unfortunate thing is the answer is insane, cheap movement breakers. To me, the key thing in 5/6 squads, is a game breaking tech piece at 10 points or cheaper.

Both the NR and Rebel squads have Dodonna. The Imp Squad has Ozzel. And both Republic squads have Doombot.

Now what makes the Mando squad able to combat these squads? Excellent movement, and high defense pieces who can do good damage, with excellent movement.

I think the Mando mold should be applied to the Sith faction more. Obviously you can't just throw bulky shooters there. But speed is necessary. I think its time we made a broken Sith piece for 10 points or less, that is purely tech, but enables them to do something. 12 square movement. Act control is overdone, and should not exist for the sith. But maybe a 10 point piece with Black Ops, and Battle Ready, and nothing else. Maybe a Darth Sidious who costs like 15, and has Battle Ready, Force Lightning 2, and has an ability to force your opponent to activate 3?

It could just be me, but I feel that this is a repetitive scenario. evry faction has that game changer but the Sith. The time has come. Sorry if this is jacking the thread, this post can be moved if need be.

SITH DO NOT NEED TECH.

They just need good sith.

The text from the spirits is close to enough.
Maybe a helpful holocron/amulet
But those can be built into the piece.

I agree with the point that sith need some revamping.
But they need good sith.

The only viable piece is caedus

Revan takes up to make squad with limited damage, bane had no defense, plageuis lacks melee defense, offense, force powers, movement, cognus lacks damage, malgus is great but there are ways around him.

We just need good sith

Sith Vader! Where are you?
Ya, there you are

huh?

I don't think they do. otherwise they would be winning things... Republic is always behind because it lives and breathes on Lightsaber trainer. which means it lives and breathes on Jedi. which means its always behind. The Speed it can muster is wonderful, but when you only drop 80 max... you are in for a hard game.
Quinlan should not really get his Ataru mastery so he is stuck at 60.

Also Republic live by CE's. Disruptive hurts really bad. Rebels should almost always beat Republic. OR should almost always beat Republic as well. Palleon Ysalamiri bubble is tough to beat and Talon Karrde with Disruptive and Ysalamiri is tough to beat. especially since Embo will drop 70 and Soresu and Makashi are ineffective.

I am just saying I do not see them in top 3 at all. Maybe even 5th.

Imperial/rebel
NR
Mando
Republic / Fringe
OR
Separatist / Sith

OR currently can't keep up with Republic, not the other way around. Every good squad has some type of "act control". That means you have some way of gaining an activation advantage over your opponent. Seps, Rebels, New Republic and Imperials have the most obvious examples in San Hill, Dodanna and Ozzel.

The less obvious ones are anything that has the ability to kill a lot of pieces in one go. Strafe, Gallop and Furious Accurate are presently some of the best examples in that category. These elements, when played well, can be just as good as the tech pieces if not better. I think if anyone had played a squad with panaka and yobuck they could have made top 6...

The big problem with panaka/ yobuck is getting caught in a disruptive bubble from talon or Mandalore vidicated, or ending next to a piece with distraction, and then being stuck. I was surprised there were no all fringe Talon squads played, and the number of sith squads was a little surprising as well.

Ooooh. They only need to be played well.... Because they weren't played well?

And top 6....

Everyone keeps talking top 6 or top 8.
Who cares?

Like I said making it close but always losing doesn't mean much.

Like the clippers. They made it to the semi-finals quite a few times but Chris Paul never felt like a real contender.
Look at Boston Celtics last year. They were number 1 in East made it to the Eastern conference finals. Did anyone think they ever had a chance? Of course not (or they were dreaming).

The difference between being competitive and actually having a chance to win is just as big in the factions of minis.

Republic competes but can't win.

Republic has won GenCon at least 2 times my friend ( Doombot has been on both of those squads, Crit-Du on 1 of those squads)! New Republic has only won 1 time ( Prefessor Luke's Art Class ). Republic is always in the top 6 and 8, however, Yodabuck hasn't won it yet, but has been close ThumpUp

Mace had no reason to win. Bad design allowed him to kill corran Horn from a riposte..... Never should have won.

I am glad it has won in the past. When was the other non mace win?

Back in 2007, with the Release of Bounty Hunters in '06, and Alliance & Empire in '07. The SWM championship at that time was 150 pts. The winner of GenCon, was Republic, fielding Doombot, Disentegration Boba Fett, Jedi Weapons Masters, and ugnaughts. Woot. I played against that guy in an early round of the tourney, and almost beat him ThumbsUp

Here is the squad I nearly beat him with in swiss, but lost to in the final seconds, as he tow cabled Boba, right into the middle of my swarm, and flamethrowered a plethora of my assassins, to beat me at the buzzer!

back to the topic on hand.

I like the look of the top 6. I don't have anything to add about act control, it sucks moving on lol.

I do like how some pieces that have been overlooked for some time got a chance to shine, looking at you Han.
