On a success, this character gains Mettle and Sense the Future for the rest of the skirmish, and you may immediately add a character with Light Spirit to your squad adjacent to this character. On a failure, this character takes 60 damage and is considered activated this round. This force power may only be used once per skirmish.)

First of all, welcome to the world of customs. For your first piece this one is pretty darn good. Now for suggestions. Beyond Shadows is interesting but not worth risk and therefore an easy ability to drop. Fold Space is cool but can be swapped for Levitation 1. Hassat-dur has such a limited scope that it's another easy drop to pare down the character. I think Mnemnotherapy should specify "in play" so it can't be used to bring back defeated characters.

The special abilities all look good, it's the Force powers which could benefit from a clean up. It's tough to represent EU Luke at that point in his arc because he is so darn powerful.

Thanks for the tips. Fold Space is meant to be a slightly more powerful version of Levitation, because you can move characters with Emplacement (as it's teleportation, not levitation). You can also move enemy characters (as in Levitation 6) and any character regardless of base size. I agree that Beyond Shadows didn't turn out very well, so I'll either change or remove it.

And I thought the fact that Mnemnotherapy said 'target character' would prevent characters out of play from being brought back, but I think I'll change it to within six squares.

....ugh .... Do they have any Force points to start off with??

It's most likely north of 120; 58 Base stats + SA's. You've got a LOT of specialized, High powered Force Powers. Quickie on costing. There are "Levels" of the number of SA's + FP's you can have before costs jump exponentially. Example; 5 SA's + FP;s cost x. 6 SA's + FP's cost x +5, 8 cost x + 10. You've got 10 SA's + 10 FP's.

Another example of costing. Comparable EPIC characters with high numbers of abilities/powers cost 140 plus. Example Marka Ragnos 142, The Ganner 149. Exar Kun 153, Revan 161. Those are comparable people. Now, I'm not telling you what to do; heck its Your Custom and this is a "For Fun" contest. But ultimately, if you want to be taken seriously, the fan boy approach needs to be reigned in. Are Ben & Luke capable of doing all this? Very likely, but All Jedi could conceivably do most things, but we can't give Everybody Every Ability; where's the fun if they're All One Man armies.

Sorry, I did forget about starting force points. I am new to this making customs thing. So, of course, I also don't know anything about balanced costing. Thanks for the advice.

But as to your other point, this is not a 'fan boy' approach. I'm trying to represent the things that Luke did (obviously the character represents him more as a Grand Master than the young and inexperienced Knight Ben) in the Fate of the Jedi story arc. As opposed to emphasis on his prowess with a lightsaber, as SWM's Grand Master Lukes have, I chose to highlight the plethora of force techniques he learned on his journey to discover why Jacen fell to the dark side. All the custom force powers are ones that he was taught and used in the series.

Welcome Gandalf! Is it the grey or the white though? Haha. And echoing the probably have to drop a few abilities. Generally simpler is better at this stage of the game as interactions get pretty complex. It's definitely up to you for your own design angle but when I finish with a piece I immediately ask myself: 1. Which ability/power is least needed, and I drop one just on principle and then usually more. 2. Is there different close enough abilities to replace what I have. 3. Does is make sense?
gandalfthegreatestwizard

By no means does he have 'every ability'; I merely wanted to display some diverse powers rather than just the regular, boring Force and Lightsaber Defenses.

And while thematic your characters are a bit more RPG style where they have all of the abilities that they would have. But remember this is miniature combat game. Original Darth Vaders had just triple attack and Sith grip. Even though he could probably do a ton more. Consider finding the theme of what you want to do with your character and then cutting out everything that doesn't fit that. Focus on commander, force user, melee, ranged, healer, tech, etc...

For you I would focus on their Force using aspects and drop the SAs down to just affinity, double, twin and teamwork.

Thanks for the tips, Grievous. I have dropped a few non-essential ones, and left mostly the custom ones, which I think are important to prevent him from being a clone of the other Master Lukes.

Looking a lot cleaner now, I would also recommend dropping force-bonded combat (or just give him synergy +2/+2 for Force users as it's the same except a one time bonus instead of cumulative like here) or else dropping his stats super low because currently you bring 8 Felucians and these guys have a defense of 37 and attack of 34 which is a bit crazy. Aura of Freedom also should probably cost Force points or else it's a special ability, maybe "Force 1, Usable on this Characters Turn" OR "Force 1: When this character would be moved outside of its turn, prevent that movement with a save of 6"
gandalfthegreatestwizard
11/16/2017 5:57:59 AM (Updated: 11/16/2017 6:00:41 AM)

No, Force-bonded Combat specifies *unique* force users. So no 8 Felucians. And I believe there is a precedent in SWM for force powers without a cost? I'll check that. Edit: yes, there is. Things like Force Spirit X, and probably some others. Though I do sort of agree that it should have a cost, so I will change it after all.
General_Grievous
11/16/2017 6:17:42 AM

Missed the unique part, that's a bit safer now as max could be +8/+8 in 200 points build. But if you are playing epic 400-500 rules these guys would go back to being insane and the highest attack/defense in the game with +30/+30. You may want to switch it to adjacent unique Force allies and/or just +1/+1
gandalfthegreatestwizard

Still not as high as defense as Stormtroopers :P But yeah, you're right. And it does actually make more sense considering what I based the ability off that it is adjacent characters.

I'd raise his base defense to 23. I would also drop Hassat-dur Amplification because I would never spend 3 force on it. I love force-bonded combat! and I love Aura of freedom and I love levitation at the end of the turn. Light Spirit can be any Light spirit? so from any faction? that's pretty sweet will have to look into the combos there!
gandalfthegreatestwizard
11/16/2017 6:11:26 PM

Defense- OK. Hassat-dur- considering the amount of force points he has, and the fact that most of his force powers are for flavor, so there are no high cost ones that he would use often, I would spend 3 if I had a few commander effects in my squad. Light Spirit- I left the wording a tad ambiguous because I didn't know how powerful it would be, but then again NR already have Affinity for Light Spirits so there can't be anything too broken.

Does this piece work with lor San Tekka? The specific question being "contains Luke Skywalker" but this piece is Luke and Ben Skywalker

@jen'ari - the name contains qualifiers must appear contiguously in the specified order. The name could be Luke Skywalker with Ben, Ben and Luke Skywalker etc and then it would work.

I'm not the biggest fan of the Disney movies, but Lor San combined with this character's Levitation would be pretty cool. I'll change the name.

But you will be a fan of the next one I hope. I have total confidence in rian Johnson after seeing a noir film titled Brick. I was blown away by the subtleties that completed characters. Brilliant film, very hopeful for this film. As for the peeve I think a little trick like lor San would do well with the high cost
