Special Abilities

  • Unique
  • Gotal
  • Antarian
  • Affinity (May be in a Republic or New Republic Squad)
  • Rapport (Antarian Ranger characters cost 2 less when in the same squad as this character.)
  • Immediate Antarian Ranger Reserves 20 (If you roll exactly 4, 9, 14, or 19 for initiative, you can add up to 20 points of Antarian Ranger characters to your squad, adjacent to this character, immediately before your first activation of the round.)

Commander Effect

If all allies are either Antarian characters or have Force ratings: roll twice for initiative, once per round, choosing either result.

Kaskutal was the founder of the Antarian Rangers. With his strong business and managerial skills, Kaskutal ensured that the organization was financially stable and helped to continue its expansion.

Looks potentially interesting, my only gripe would be Rangers are between 12-20 points; bringing in just one character a pop never seemd worth it to me; suppose it depends on need of course. The Ranger itself could come in twice with your Rapport which mitigates that restriction somewhat.

True statement. With the existing characters, you will mainly bring in 2 bog-standard Rangers. If you need another Captain, giving up a couple points to get one seems a fair trade.

I originally had it (regular) AR Reserves 30 on a roll of 9, and no built-in way to roll twice, also Rapport 1. So he would bring in 3 Rangers in Republic if you had Queen Amidala, but would have to have other support to roll twice. I wanted him to work in any of the Affinity factions as well. Also, looking towards Ranger/Jedi only squads. (I should possibly change CE to "living" characters with Force ratings to avoid Qui-Ghost et al)

Thanks guys :) Also scratch the comment about adding 'living' to the CE. Might do more harm than good in the long run. :/ Also, I didn't completely factor the AR Tactical Soldier guy into the plan here, for the record. Too much going on with that guy, but its Rapport for those OR/NR commanders could slot in nicely in some cases. I think that the CE and Recon cancel each other out (I mean don't stack), but I should probably verify that to be safe. (no, I don't have all the answers to rules questions stored in the front of my brain, I just go research for the most part) ;)

I would say that since the CE and Recon both say roll twice (a definitive # of times) they wouldn't stack as it's not a reroll or an "extra" roll.

If I have the SA Opportunist... And someone has a CE that gives me +4/10 against activated enemies... Would those not stack?

They would, but I would see this as more like if there was an SA granting the effects of San Hill's CE in that they can't really stack because they would do the same thing (in that case activate 1 character, in this case roll twice)

The CE here is not even close to Recon tho... The CE says you roll twice if your squad is built a certain way... Recon requires you to have LOS... So a good comparison would be Opp and Jedi Hunter. They both increase your attack/damage, both have separate "triggers". So I don't see why it would not stack?

The issue wouldn't be what triggers it, but more the when does it trigger. Recon and the CE both trigger upon rolling init (no other time do they come into play), which the once per round could be eliminated from the CE as it's arbitrary and duplicate CEs don't stack if that were ever to be the case. Hypothetically speaking, if they would stack what exactly does "twice" mean? How many dice would you roll? 3? 4? or 2 two times? Either way Swine expressed desire to not have them stack.

Does Anticipation work with Recon? Yes. But you roll 3 times. My interpretation of this CE, is the exact same as Anticipation and Recon. Designer intent is a V-set phrase they created when they design a bad character, and then errata it. ( In no way do I think this is a bad character, don to try and turn it into that) Its a scape goat phrase where you can put anything on a card, and then either change it, or add something to our infinite FAQ book to clarify it

I only brought up intent as perhaps the wording does need some fixing, but overall I don't see a problem with it as is. Anticipation is very different in that it allows you to reroll initiative, just as an FP allows a reroll of an attack roll, Recon and the CE allow you to roll two dice (not a bonus dice) and choose.

I don't see an issue with it either, I was never saying I did. Honestly I was more curious how it actually interacts with recon more than anything. My new idea, is that you would roll twice for Recon... then choose 1 of them, then you could roll 1 more time for the CE ( the first roll would be the roll you chose from Recon, 2nd roll would be an actual roll) So I think you would get 3 total "rolls"

I just noticed today. shouldn't it offiially have Affinity? I know the symbals for the Republic factions are in the corner, but still ....

Updated for Affinity omission. Faction changed to OR since he was the founder, and WotC went there (also Rise of the Empire era goes back way before Clone Wars per Wook). It's not like we can't play characters from different eras together. Consider the rest his legacy. ;)
