I was reflecting earlier on where the game at I were in August of 2010. WOTC had announced they were dropping the game and we already had the first iteration of the v sets team hard at work. We had some 40 people at the championship, I finished 23rd, and I was given a special prize for my squad. The prize included an Exar Kun, DFS card. The next week would mark my first appearance on SHNN. I got my first legal job that summer, one I would stay in for almost 13 years. It was an exciting and fulfilling time, but also filled with uncertainty. We didn't know if all the work would be worth it. But we kept going. In 2012 we had the idea to host a v set sealed event with custom minis at Gen Con. Despite the fact that my claim to fame as a customizer was a Marvel take on Mace in the Face, I took on the lion's share of the painting and gluing. We had just bought a house, we're living between two cities, and I was painting on a folding table in my front room because that spot had the best light. Hard to believe all the sealed events that have followed. In 2020, with our major minis competition canceled, we introduced Vassal Con. It succeeded beyond our wildest imagination and now works as a companion to Gen Con. This year, we are releasing our 30th v sets, continuing to display the ingenuity in our community. We have our differences, but I'm so proud of everyone here on this site. We decided this game deserved champions, and we became that. We kept it going through a bunch of wannabe games, incorporated what we could, rejected the stupid. People came and went and came back again. It hasn't been easy. But there's an undeniable pull to this game and this community. I'm grateful for the people it has brought into my life.

+1 When you stop and think what a profound piece of your life this game, this website, and the random names you've never put a face to here have been, it makes your head spin. Thanks for all your hard work on keeping the ship afloat! My friends and I are grateful

Well said, Laura! And thanks for saying it. I agree wholeheartedly. I've played many different skirmish games over the years, and several of them are really good...but nothing compares with SWM. Not only is the gameplay the best I've ever encountered, but (as Laura said) the community is top notch...and that's a big deal. Thank you, all of you, for being awesome.
