            characters with the "lightsaber" SA does not have the "melee" SA, so when against an adjacent opponent, would that be considered a melee attack? say...like against someone with djem?

            no it is still considered a non-melee attack. The only abillity that changes the attack type is Poison blade. You would not be able to djem-so, parry , or block the attack. However you will be able to deflect/Reflect and soresu the attack.
