Map: Muunilist Grand Plaza

Scenario: This is based on the generic "Escape" scenario from Ultimate Missions: Rebel Storm. The map was randomly determined. The Imperials line up on either the north or south edge of the map (one of the long sides). The Rebels line up on the other. All characters start on the 2 rows closest to the edge of the map. The Rebels must exit the map via the Imperials’ starting zone with at least half of their characters within 5 rounds. The Imperials must prevent the Rebels from reaching their victory condition. Rebels are "sneaking". Because they are sneaking, if a Rebel character does not have line of sight to an Imperial at the beginning of their turn then the Rebel character may only move up to their speed on their turn. If they have line of sight to an Imperial at the beginning of their turn they may "sprint" and move double their speed (as usual, assuming they do not attack).

The Rebels managed to steal the Death Star plans, but the encryption on the plans was not so easy to break. Fortunately, they knew someone who could help them. He lived on one of the few planets in the galaxy that was openly friendly to the Rebellion. The Rebel ship with the stolen plans landed, and Crix Madine and Carlist Rieekan took the plans to the man they hoped could decrypt them. He was a security specialist at a local bank, and he scurried them into a vault to begin his work. Half of the crew from the ship was in town for R&R, openly armed and in their Rebel uniforms - a rare occasion. The security specialist had just finished the decryption when the comlinks burst to life warning of an Imperial shuttle that had landed. Everyone was ordered to rush back to the ship as quickly as possible.

With the chatter from the comlinks, troopers and commandos came rushing into the bank to organize a plan of how to get past the approaching Imperials. Seven troopers worked their way through the statue garden just east of the bank. Three commandos, one on a speeder bike (!), worked their way through a building to the west of the bank. Inside the bank near the tellers, the Rebel Commando Strike Leader and the Rebel Captain worked up a plan with four troopers and an Elite Rebel Commando. Madine and Rieekan initially thought they could hide in the vault with R2-D2 until the Imperials left, and then they would be able to find another ride to catch up with the rest later.

Everyone started moving as a Shock Trooper stepped out onto East Street and blasted a missile at a group of Rebels in the doorway of the bank. Fortunately, they moved out of the way in time. Return fire eliminated the Shock Trooper as a threat. Stormtroopers were soon in view in the central plaza when all of a sudden Darth Vader himself appeared, catching everyone off guard. An Elite Rebel Commando locked the east entrance to the bank and everyone in the bank (including Madine and Rieekan) headed toward the west exit. Vader got around the building far faster than the Rebels could move inside the building, and as the first Rebels headed into the street, Darth Vader sliced R2-D2 in half and cut down an Elite Rebel Commando.

The rest of the Rebels tried to exit the bank toward the north instead, but they ran into a locked door. An Imperial R7 droid beeped in amusement from across the plaza. The beeps quickly turned to shock as two blasts from the other Elite Rebel Commando (shooting from the building on the other side of West Street) put it out of commission. The bank door opened and the Rebels began pouring out into the plaza, heading toward West Street. All except Crix Madine, who backed into the vault and locked the door. Before the Rebels realized it, Vader was at the north end of West Street blocking their path. A couple of them rushed past Vader, and he strangely let them pass. He swung and missed at the speeder bike that rushed at him, but it jumped just out of his reach as it flew overhead.

Meanwhile, a brief fire fight between Rebel Troopers and Stormtroopers east of the bank had left one of each dead. The Rebels thought they had a clear path to the waiting ship, and a few had already boarded when Vader seemed to appear out of nowhere right in their path. They all fired on him, but he effortlessly absorbed their blaster bolts with his hands. Vader showed his lightsaber, but ultimately just pushed them all to the ground and walked away, realizing that they did not have the plans he was looking for.

Epilogue:

The Emperor's hologram doubted Vader's words. "The plans must have been there," he said.

"Master, I repeat that the plans did not pass by me. Naturally, I could have slaughtered them all, but all of my energy was focused on sensing the Rebels I encountered. I was more interested in locating the plans. Most felt fear, but only for their lives. None feared for the loss of anything they were carrying. I would have sensed it. I am confident that the data was not on the ship when it left."

Meanwhile, Madine sat in the vault, barely breathing. He waited a full 48 hours without sleeping or eating before signaling to the security expert, who let him out. Madine found private transport and caught up with his comrades two days later, safely carrying the decrypted plans with him.
