Is the point of this ability simply that I can pull Green Jedi characters into the NR with Corran Horn?

No, the affinity takes care of that.

It is just a potential future looking ability. Think of it like Ithorian on Roran Corab. It allows the designers to do more things with them if they choose but separates them so that they can pick a specific group of characters instead of a whole bunch.
