Saturday, October 20th -

SCRAMBLE-CON 2.0!!!

Since we are having to scramble to make the tournament work, we're going to continue with that theme and

THROW SOME RANDOM CRAP TOGETHER AS A SQUAD!

This will be a TIER 2 (or lower) tournament.

What does that mean?

It's always been nebulous and subjective - so I'll define strict, easy parameters. It will simply be banned figures. (See next post)

We are on the calendar at Chicagoland Games (Dice Dojo). {Same place we've had the Regional the last several years.}

5550 N Broadway St Chicago, IL 60640

$10 Entry

Registration begins at 11am,
Registration ENDS at 11:45am

Rounds begin promptly at Noon

Gameplay in each round will last exactly 1 hour. 10 minutes of set-up time will be given before the game clock begins each round (we will start the game clock when everyone is set and ready if it is before 10 minute set-up time is done).

Number of Swiss (initial) rounds depend on number of participants.
6-8 = 3 rounds
9-16 = 4 rounds
17-32 = 5 rounds (very optimistic here)

For any number of participants above 8, cut to the top 4 and play 2 rounds of single elimination finals.

8 or less entries we will collectively figure out what the best way to proceed is. Less than 6, we will likely do a "round robin" (everyone plays everyone) as opposed to Swiss format.

Prize support will depend on number of entries. 100% will go toward store credit.

Short 30 minute break for food at some point

The whole event should be done by 7:30pm to give everyone plenty of time to get home. (Estimating 4 Swiss rounds)

Legal Map List will be:
Criminal Underworlds

1. Jabba's Palace
2. Crime Lord's Palace
3. Gangster's Vault
4. Cantina

This list was made based on objective as well as subjective decisions - related to gameplay power level, NPE possibilities, and frequency of use.

Full disclosure: I literally quickly scanned each faction and wrote down the names of figures either I personally, or several others have expressed not wanting to see in a tournament any more.

There will surely be figures on this list that people think "shouldn't be there". Oh well, too bad. I'm more concerned about what might be missing. I will leave the list as "incomplete" for the next 3 days, in which time people can suggest additions (I surely could have overlooked characters). I will agree and add it or disagree and leave it off. However, I will say that if a figure is suggested, and I leave it legal - I will not PERSONALLY play any of those figures - as to prevent any thoughts of shenanigans. (Barring something ridiculous like posting a page full of figures - then I would just ignore the whole list).

Nothing will be removed from this list, but there may yet be a few more additions.

I will lock the list on Monday night.

And if it's not already clear, the goal is to simply have fun and do something different.

I hope everyone enjoys the squad building challenge

I wonder if there's a good swarm squad out there, since most of the strafers are gone, and some of the disruptive. Ewoks?

I bought extra of the brand new restricted list map. Royal militia HQ.

I'll be selling them at cost to anyone who needs one.

I'll do my tournament report here.

Thanks to Tim for organizing this whole thing.

My squad choice goes back a bit. When the new map lists were announced, I saw that one of my favorites was back (Jabba's Palace) and I really enjoy playing echanis on it, even if it isn't the best of squads in today's meta. Fast forward to Tim organizing scamble con 2.0 because someone thought Shawn should have to work the weekend. Tim picked the Jabba's palace side of the map list and enacted a Banned list. After scanning the banned list, I saw that Atris was still legal and was one of the few characters that provided a damage boost that were still available (no talon, no bandon, etc).

Then it was onto picking the faction. With most of the movement breakers being banned as well, I decided that if I could have some movement breakers, it would be a huge advantage. While, Luke Stormie and K-3p0 are no Thrawn/Mas, I thought it could be pretty solid. And since we didn't need much door control (no closing of doors was available), I could convert the last few points to more mice instead of having an uggie or two. So this is what I came up with.

--scramble2.0--
41 Atris
88 Echani Handmaiden x4
20 K-3PO
17 Luke Skywalker in Stormtrooper Armor
15 Jabba, Crime Lord
12 Mouse Droid x4
6 Rodian Brute x2

(199pts. 14 activations)

I looked long and hard at republic (yularen), imperial anyway (for veers and accurate), and a couple other factions, but in the end because of the movement breakers went with Rebel. And of course I used Jabba's Palace as my map.

Tournament structure.
We had 7 people show up, which is about the most difficult number to run a tournament for. We ended up going with a double elimination tournament.

Rd 1
I got a bye so got to advance to the winners side of the tournament with no work. I always hate getting the bye because I just like to play minis, although since I didn't travel that far, it was ok.

Rd 2
I played against Tim and his crazy 1000 defense shamed one squad with yushaaa and about a billion shamed ones. With my extra movement I was able to get to gambit first, and with Atris on I was rolling 15s (or 19s with cunning) with the echanis, I just started shooting, and shooting, and shooting, and shooting, etc. Lots of shots with my nerf blaster, but got enough big rolls (and tried to pick on the edges since I had better positioning), that I eventually started wearing down his squad. The firsts echani got I think 4-5 shamed ones, a mouse, and maybe an intendant, but I just kept trying to shoot and keep away, and with probably one more round or two would have secured a full win, but as it was, I won pretty handily.

Rd 3 (the finals of the winner side of the bracket)
I played Randy and his General Weir, Rey and Kylo squad. This was a crazy tight match. Because he had stealth, I had to get close enough to shoot him, but had to shoot through shields. I took out rey and kylo but not before they ate an echani. Then I failed some evades to lose a second one. The real turning point for me came when I won about 3 straight inits in the middle rounds, which allowed me to both kill a storm commando keep out of sight. Randy was still able to keep the pressure on, and had some nice tricks to get some damage on Atris and kill off a third echani. In the end weir missed a killing shot on atris (no opp so needed a 14 I think), and I was able to get over 200 with my 7th rd of gambit. (we did play another round to see what would have happened and I ended up finishing off Randy's squad). Very close game but I won.

That kicked Randy to the 1 loss bracket, which left 3 players with 1 loss. Bryan and Mike played and Mike was victorious setting up a match with Randy.

While Randy and Mike were playing, Bryan and I started up a game just to get more games in.

VS Bryan and 1st order.
We didn't get too far into this match before Mike defeated Randy, but Bryan was in serious trouble. Snoke was down to 20 left, the elite guard was down to 10 left, Kylo was out of force, and I was about to take out Capt Trash Can, and in return had lost just 1 handmaiden and a mouse and rodian I believe.

Vs Mike in the finals.
Mike had a modified version of his Bao-Dur Droidekas but with Brainiac. Brainiac was going to be tough as I would have to get close to get my twins off, which is bad news for squishy handmaidens. I was able to get 1st rd gambit which mike couldn't which gave me an advantage. With wheeled, he was able to take out a handmaiden early in round 2, but some bad saves, let me take out a droideka, and I was also able to get young ani almost dead. Then I won init and took out a second droideka and retreated. Mike was struggling to hit, and with my positioning I tried to not give him any landing spots next to my remaining handmaidens so I could evade. And my mice were heroic, making nearly every single splash save. I kept trying to spread the damage around and he was able to snipe a second handmaiden from a line I didn't expect with brainiac (and a failed evade). In the end though, I was able to win just enough inits, keep my mice within 6, to finish up all the droidekas. He did end up taking out a 3rd echani and the 4th was down to 10hp. He also ate through jabba relatively easily, and with some riposte action had worked atris down quite a bit. But I was able to finish him off.

Thanks again to Tim for organizing this, and I had a great time. Played against and beat 4 of the 6 squads there (didn't play Lillian or Laura).

I hope everyone had fun. I NPE'd myself with my awful and arduous to play and calculate squad, lol.

Glad Mike Randy and Bryan came out for it!
