my squad is submitted to another player that i won't be matched with in round 3. Everyone can send me their squads/map for round 3 if they haven't done so already. We can start the next round as soon as that is done. I'll post the standings latter today after the 2 rounds.

The character added by the Eighth Cortex Shaper's CE is treated the same way Reinforcements used to work (not worth points, doesn't change the point value of the character who brings it in, can't score gambit, doesn't have to be defeated to win the skirmish, and does not count towards the cost of your squad).

That's because the Shaper's CE was designed to work like Reinforcements did in 2017, and the balance committee did not include it in its 2021 change (which specifically only affects special abilities whose names contain Reinforcements).

Glossary for this commander effect (from the design thread, not sure if it was ever posted on bloomilk):
Quote:
After set-up, you may add one additional Yuuzhan Vong character under this character's cost to your squad. Place the chosen character adjacent to this character. The chosen character must not have the Outsider special ability. The chosen character doesn’t count toward the cost of your squad, and your opponent doesn’t have to defeat them to win the skirmish. If you are scoring points for defeats, or in a tiebreaker, defeating the chosen character doesn’t score points.

Oops. apparently I missed that part.

So how does Darth Sid Sith Emperor work? Or other characters that add pieces via CE.

This raises the question as to why do some CE's that bring reinforcements work this way and then others do not. This is very confusing and there should be consistency with CE's adding reinforcement characters.

This probably should be discussed in the rules forum, but I digress. Either way, I do see the caveat that states "special abilities", in the 2021 Balance Committee's decision.

I completely agree: we need consistency.

I personally don't care how it works, either way. But it should be straight-forward-simple, rather than "Well, X works this way because of this, but Y works that way because of that"...when the one was originally designed to work just like the other.

Characters added by his CE are worth points and can score gambit (but his cost is not reduced).

Regarding the comments from Mel and Trevor C: I too prefer to have consistency, but I also don't want to trample over what the designer was intending when they created a character, where it's possible within the rules. Maybe it will be possible in the future to standardize these effects (e.g. an updated floor rule that affects all of them, not just Reinforcements) but for now some of them are going to work differently.
