thereisnotry defeats gandalfthegreatestwizard 376-259 (3-1) on Jungle Tomb

I won the map and Joe set up on the right. Dooku taught Maul how to Makashi. The Dark Lady tutored Yoda...think about that one, for a moment.

Round 1: All positioning, until after I was out and Foul lifted Blizz forward so that he could move up and Flame on Grievous and Asajj and Durge and my Gatekeeper Droid. Ouch! Gambit for Joe. 19-0. Big init coming up....

Round 2: I rolled a 19! And then Joe did too. My initiative reroll was a 1, so that hurt. Blizz flamed again (sending Grievous back with Presumed Dead)...Durge at 90, Asajj at 30, Gatekeeper dead. Blizz bravely ran way, back toward his people. But Durge caught him anyway, strafing Blizz, Foul, Saesee, Coleman, R2, Yoda, Lady, and Shaak Ti. He missed some attacks (as expected) but got enough damage through that when he died later this round I didn't consider it a total waste...significantly, R2 died. Then Asajj ran up to kill Blizz before she died. The Lady killed Durge, and the Spaarti hit Asajj for 10dmg (down to 20hp). San pushed Maul forward, who then ambushed and killed Foul; this triggered Maul's CE, which allowed Asajj to bravely run away, so that if Joe wanted to kill her he'd have to work a bit harder for it. Yoda came up to start his rather impressive pattern of missing with his LS Throw attacks (both of them were really bad rolls). Coleman double-assaulted Maul and managed to hit 3 of the attacks (needing 10s) but Maul had been practicing hard and so he blocked every one. Dooku ran up so that he could cause problems for AniObi. Saesee attacked Maul but bad dice (needing 9s). Ani-Obi leapt past Maul, but Dooku hit them twice on the way by (thanks to Jedi Reflexes, plus Makashi Mastery negating SSM). Ani-Obi managed to get a single hit on Maul on their triple attack, (miss, makashi, dmg)...Maul at 130hp. Cad charged to shoot Ani-Obi but they soresu'd it. Shaak Ti ran fast and leapt past her friends to land beside Maul, but no damage due to good makashi dice and a successful fprr. Gambit for both. 121-71 for Joe.

Round 3: I won init. Maul attacked Saesee but only hit 1 of his first 2 attacks, so he then finished off Coleman with his double...that allowed his CE to push Dooku up to base both Shaak and AniObi. AniObi attacked Dooku for a total of 20dmg (and he used his Twin Riposte but missed the 2nd attack, so AniObi at 90hp), then pushed Dooku away via Teamwork (down to 80hp). Yoda ran up to kill Asajj. San pushed Grievous up for a massive Spinning Blade attack. Grievous hit a bunch of people and as the dust cleared, the HP were like this: Yoda 110, AniObi 90, Shaak Ti 110, Saesee 50, Yaddle 30, and Spaarti, Uggie, and Kneesaa were dead. Saesee then took 40dmg on an aoo to Maul (down to 10hp) to run far and assault Cad Bane, needing to roll anything but a 1 on his assault...yep, vassal dice. So with Cad alive at 40hp, Shaak Ti thought she'd try the same thing. And Cad did go down, but not before he used Saesee as a hostage shield. Dooku moved up and dropped AniObi to 50hp. Yaddle was ineffectual in combat, but used Morichro to slow down Grievous. The Dark Lady moved through a wall assaulted Maul, but she should've known that NOBODY CAN HURT MAUL...he's already suffered enough. [Side note: he should have Eternal Hatred...just sayin'! lol] Gambit for both. 218-140 for Joe.

Round 4: I won init. Maul killed the Dark Lady, then his CE allowed Dooku to drop AniObi to 10hp. AniObi killed a Drone and then had delusions of grandeur and tried to hurt Maul. That went as expected, for this game. Yoda ran in with a chance to kill Dooku with a double Throw...but Dooku had some sweet aoo's to make first. Dooku missed everything. Then Yoda missed everything. [It was a reprisal of their duel in Episode 2, except with the choreography of the sequels! lol] Grievous killed Yaddle. Then Dooku used Chain Lightning to drop Yoda to 80hp (not enough fp to cancel it) and kill AniObi. Shaak Ti had taken 2 hits from the plucky BX Infiltrator droid, but then she cam in for the killing shots on Dooku, but he blocked everything. Gambit for both. 309-240 for me.

Round 5: Joe won init, so Yoda charged in at Dooku (again) for the chance to kill him (again)...and once again, their fight choreography was awful: Dooku missed all his aoo's, and Yoda missed most of his attacks (just hitting 1), so Dooku was at 30hp. Yoda then kept moving and tried to get away. Maul ambushed Shaak Ti, which allowed Dooku to chase Yoda down. Grievous attacked Yoda but forgot to activate his lightsabers before swinging. My BX droid and Drone worked together to kill Joe's last Uggie. San pushed Maul forward so that Yoda was based by all 3 of my remaining attackers. Gambit for both. 376-259 for me, and that was the game.

[However, we played it out anyway, just to see if Yoda would've been able to finally kill Dooku. I won init and then Dooku finally rolled some hits, so Yoda went down. So I would've won and Dooku would've survived, even without Gambit.]

Wow, this was crazy. My choice to give Maul Makashi Style (as opposed to Djem So, which I was considering) proved to be a HUGE deal, because my makashi dice were red-hot tonight. He failed a _single_ save after fprrs (which he did 3x), which allowed him to stay right in the middle of the fight all game long, which was good for me and bad for the jedi. [I think Maul may just be the coolest mini I've ever used...I'd like to shake the hand of the person who designed him! lol] He definitely needs Eternal Hatred, though...I'll submit that to the Balance Committee for next year's changes.

Seriously, though, this was a really fun match. Joe's dice let him down *big time* on several occasions: most significant were the 1 against Cad and the multiple killing blow opportunities vs Dooku. Dooku ignoring SSM was pretty impactful, too. And since I had two big multi-target turns (strafe and spinning blade), that allowed me to pile on the damage before too many of my guys went down. Joe played his squad really well, as per usual. Thanks for the game!

Ooh, that gives me a good idea: We should make a Emperor with a reskin of Eternal Hatred (no save) called "Somehow, Palpatine returned".
