2027 Balance Committee
Official Discussion Thread
Welcome! This is the place to discuss ideas, concerns, and suggestions for competitive Star Wars Miniatures.

WHAT SHOULD WE TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT?
• Have a potential solution to a balance problem?
• Believe a reported concern isn’t actually an issue?
• Think a mechanic, squad, or interaction deserves closer review?

Share your perspective here. Specific examples, squad lists, and playtest results help the committee evaluate concerns and proposed solutions.

The Balance Committee will carefully review the discussion before making any official changes.

KEEP THE DISCUSSION PRODUCTIVE
Be constructive, clear, and on-topic. Challenge ideas respectfully and explain your reasoning so this thread remains a useful resource for both the committee and the community.

Thank you for helping shape the 2027 tournament season! BlooMilk

I agree with Mira losing RD altogether. In a Thrawn swap squad, she could wreck an entire squad if you had them bunched or semi-bunched on a map with lots of danger squares. She could drop 40 then when you win initiative, drop another unanswerable 40 and move 8 squares with agile (10 with a force point) and hide. Opponent is reeling and then she gets swapped for a finisher or a Rodian and can do it again in a round or two. No way. This is the definition of NPE, and the opponent has no shot and has to be so worried about where to stand at all times that any game strategy considered beforehand, is almost not possible.

While at it, Dodge is an ability that is not needed at all. The fact that a person with a blaster to their head from the adjacent square can "dodge" a shot is not reasonable. I get game mechanics and abilities are not necessarily "reasonable" and are fictitious abilities after all, but even with Force Deflect from an adjacent square, at least you have to spend something to attempt it. At least make it a save 16. Free, adjacent evade essentially, IMO is not necessary, even if not used all the time (playing characters with it).

Killik Queen with certain force user squads is a bit of a problem with the damage stacking and movement range. The Army of Light as an example can have a Echanni Jedi charging assault and do 50 dmg hits with Twin attack, Cunning, Prideful and Quick Strike and then if 100 dmg defeats that target, she can rolling cleave and do another 100 dmg. The damage boosts are all undisruptable, so that is a problem that probably should be discussed.

I agree 100%.
I've said for a while that damage-stacking is a problem. 30 is the new 20, when it comes to damage: everyone does 30, and it's common for your attackers to make 40dmg shots.

Credit to Mando for making this squad (Army of Killiks), but for the health of the game, it should not be possible.

I think people should seriously consider what Randy is proposing here:
Should the floor rules include caps to Attack, Damage, and Defense

I agree 💯%, with your take on Cobb Vanth and Bo-Katan.

Your take on the Echani Jedi, I do not. The OR hasn't been an issue since "Jester" ( Ian ) won GenCon, many years ago. OR has already taken a heavy hit with the Bastila downgrade. "Killik Army" piloted by Mando went 2-2, at the 2026 Vassal Con. Please leave OR alone, and give them at least a shot in meta competition.

Mandos Ally and Nite Owls need to be looked at with a microscope.

OR need a lot of help!

My argument here has nothing to do with Mando's squad. My problem is with the cost of the individual piece in comparison with other characters within the Faction that it outclasses pound for pound.

Comparison to the Green Jedi: Cost -2, HP -2, Defense +1, Attack -2, -Difficult Target and Stealth. + Agile + Guile + Rolling Cleave + Shields 1. Army of Light and Echani Handmaiden are not equal to Affinity (with Corran Horn) + Green Jedi. The Green Jedi requires a 36 point character to get into Army of Light. Total character replacement creating a situation where they do not only get Prideful but an additional +8/+10, Evade, and Bubble on top of Shields 1.

Comparison to the Jedi Watchman: Same Cost. +1 Defense, +5 abilities, +1 Force, and a better defensive Force Power.

Comparison to the Mirialan Jedi Knight: Cost +4, - Acrobatic and - Makashi Style, +Agile + Guile + Rolling Cleave+ Shields 1, +1 Force and switch Deflect to Defense. Plus 2 sub-Faction identifiers.

They are capable of a +28 Attack for 40 Damage with Twin and Rolling Cleve. They have access to Evade, Mettle, Force Bubble, Renewal, Battle Meditation, Master Speed, need I go on?

If these are not grounds for a re-Cost, I'm not sure what is. Let a trooper get access to these items and the rocks would weep. There is no need for a non-Unique to get to this level.

I think the Killik Queen is fine, and doesn't need any adjustment. In fact, I don't think she has been used in competitive play at all, until VassalCon this year. I've wanted to use her with Maul Apprentice of Hatred (because Cunning with double-twin Ambush is nice), but she's never been quite "there" for me yet. Perhaps I'll try more with her now that we have those handy Gizka to help re-educate her allies toward a killik perspective.

For the Echani Jedi, I do wonder about the wisdom of combining Twin Attack with Rolling Cleave on a cheap non-Unique piece. Those factors by themselves might not be a big deal, but all 3 of them combined together are a big deal, and so I think the Cost might perhaps need to go up. Back when we played the SWM TacRPG (Kezzamachine has provided the most recent update to those rules), my favorite character was a jedi with Charging Assault and Twin and Rolling Cleave and Momentum...dude got some work done! Twin with RC is powerful...if that's on a piece that is hitting accurately and also doing high damage per hit, we've got a problem.

I also think the Killik Queen is not as big of a issue in most squads, she just is with certain Force User based squads like the AoL Echani Jedi for the reasons thereisnotry stated. The Killik Queen is realyl fun to squad build with for the reason that she can bring Cunning Attack to factions that didn't have access to it before and Charging Assault is great for melee to get a chance to impact the game that much quicker. She actually speeds the game up a bunch and is one of my favorite minis to squad build with! I do think it may be just a case of adjusting other minis instead of the KQ so that it isn't so easy to abuse when you factor in the benefits she can give them. Echanni Jedi are just too good for their cost so they just stand out very clearly as broken when you give them a un-distractable/un-disruptable damage and attack boost with Prideful + Quick Strike + Cunning Attack.
