Currently, they can.

Come the Jan DCI update, that is expected to change.

That thread has a pretty good summary. Of course, we still have to wait till Jan.

Sithborg - Where did you hear that they were planning on making that change? I think that is a stupid move IMHO.

Personally, I like this change. It forces shooter squads to have to come closer to the melee people in Gambit......someone just won't be able to send a mouse droid to collect gambit while there shooters pick you off from a distance.

isn't the reason of picking a non-melee squad to not engage in melee? I see no reason not to allow uggies or mouse droids to gain gambit...the whole no "reserves/re-inforcement" can gain gambit is fine...but a 3pt piece built into the squad should be legal for the gambit.

The thought behind it is that you have to put a figure worth at least 5 points at risk to be able to earn the 5 gambit points.

The main reason is that you are risking less points than you are gaining. And there is a feeling that creates an abuse of Gambit. So you have to risk at least 5pts to gain 5pts.n

Anyway, this is not the place to discuss it. The DCI rules changes have been submitted, and we will see what is actually changed next month.
