Do you HAVE to roll a save to dominate your own characters?

this is the part of the text that has me confused as to wether or not you have to roll this for your own characters.

The save roll is not optional. I believe this is covered in the FAQ.

I still have a hard time differianting (sp) between rpg's vs. skirmish games...where you can choose to not resist party members SA's if it benifits you in an rpg.

or your own squad members should have a differnt save of 16 to resist its effect.

I believe you have to roll the save, but do not have to resist the effect.

That is incorrect. The effect is tied to failing the save.

From the FAQ:

Saves

Q: Can a character voluntarily fail a save?

A: No. Although the text of some special abilities and Force powers uses the word "can," the affected character must save against that effect.

Can does not mean voluntary. "Resisting" the effect is tied to the save, which is NOT optional.

Oh, ok.

That's different from the Djem So save.

Yes, and Djem So's exception is spelled out in it's FAQ entry.
