The rules for pits say that if a character ends up in a pit to make a save and either defeat the character or place it next to the pit.
How can someone end up in a pit? The only possibility I can see is Force Push, but Push says the movement is "affected by terrain". One of the normal effects of pit terrain is that you can't move into it unless you have flight and you can't ever end your move on it.

Am I reading Push wrong? Is there some other way to end up in a pit?

 TIA

Push and Repulse are currently the only ways. Both of those are involuntary movement that can push characters into pits. This is covered under "push" in the rulebook glossary.

Alternatively, some people play as a house rule that if a character is next to a pit and is attacked, and the attacking character scores a critical hit, the character next to the pit must make a save or fall and take damage (or be defeated depending on how "deep" the pit is, which is also determined by scenario or house rules). However, as far as sanctioned play goes, Sithborg is right in that Push and Repulse are the only ways otherwise.

Would Battering Charge +20 or Rout not do the same thing as these abilities also cause involuntary movement?

Fascinating. It's nice to know that railing kills aren't just for jedi (or mostly jedi) any more.
