This thread is for discussion about whatever House Rules you use when you are playing Star Wars miniatures. It seems that most people play with some kind of House Rules, some of which are rather creative.

As of right now, I myself don't play with any House Rules, but I might make one to neutralize GOWK's SSM by making it for non-melee attacks.

we play that stealth acts like diplomat in that if you cant see another character without stealth, then you can attack the character with stealth

I don't really like playing this way but my brother despises v-set characters so he won't let me play those against him, apparently because they aren't really "collectible."

I posted this in one of Hutts' map thread but I'll repost it here,

Quote:

Back when I first got into the game I was pretty young and it seemed stupid that the turbolifts didn't go anywhere. So, I came up with a houserule that the turbolifts could, indeed transport people. Basically, a character could give up its attack that turn to activate aturbolift that it was in. Everyone in that turbolift was transported immediately to another one. (You couldn't tranposrt to a turbolift with people in it already). I haven't played with it in a long time but it worked surprisingly well. The turbolift rule helped players deploy minis past those long lines of fire without ever being too broken.

To make games faster, I take 1/3 of the map and go at it. I get 1-2 games in about 1-2hrs. It's so much fun to just play the games special abilities and have a battle. It truly feels like a long live action sequence. Of course this works really well when you take the "gambit" and choose to "override" the boring stalemate mechanics. (I'm trying to be as "diplomatic" as possible, but I'm sure I’ll get many comments "activated").

Cheers

I don't like changing constructed rules much, I'm a bit of a purist, but I'm all over that turbolift thing. That just seems like some good old fashioned fun! But I like playing the other formats for fun. King of the Ring, Duos, Tile Wars, the recent Before Endor and CW: Forgotten Battles scenarios and such. KotR is a straight up knuckle bleeder and Tile Wars gets right down to the action. Both formats get you in a very different mode of thinking where squad building is concerned. I've seen some great abuses of combos that you wouldn't see in Constructed play. Randy's ISP/Emp Hand/Palpy Potty combo was very fun to go against. I was rather fond of my Metallic Tiles squad: http://www.bloomilk.com/Squad/118195/metalic-tiles.

If you have access or want to make 3-d Terrain

Steps or ladders - characters with flight can ignore them to get atop buildings.

LOS is from the characters head.
Cover - You have to be able to have LOS to the entire targets base

I think the best house rule we've created is the initiative roll.

Rather than the winner going first and initiative going clockwise, we write down what everyone rolled for initiative, and go from highest to lowest.

We did this because there were a select few in our group who would consistently bone over and get boned by initiative. Not only has this initiative change made the game more interesting, but it's brought back a lot of our old players who had lost interest in the game.

The other homeruling we've done is gone in and personally edited all those V-Set pieces. That helped a lot too.
We're also going to be making our own stat cards that we will just play in our own group. We figured, if a bunch of tournament dwellers could do it (and arguably ruin the game, but that's for a separate thread and we won't get into that), why can't we take a crack at it?

We've always wanted a sturdy Jango Fett with Mobile Attack, after all.

Oh, and I almost forgot.

We also do what we call the, "Triangle Rule."

Rather than clear cut teams and complete FFA, we play where the person to the immediate left and right of us is considered an ally, and everyone else is an enemy. So the person to my left is my ally, but the person to HIS left is my enemy. Think of a pentagram, and take a single point on the pentagram. The two immediate points adjacent to the chosen point are allies, and the ones that remain are enemies.

That sounds like an interesting way to play with 5+.

It really is quite fun. It makes for a bit of a hectic game, honestly. When it boils down to 3 players, it becomes a FFA

it may sound odd but my old League had a list of House Rules. Most of them consisted of affinities that should have been given to WOTC pieces and some gained a few restrictions. The weirdest one was for initiative For group battles. We commonly played around 5-6 people on 3 conjoining maps. SO the rule was you can pick the yourself to go first or the person directly in after you. i Dont know that it worked the best but it was there so that people did try to intentionally turn the tide of other smaller skirmishes going on, or at least not as much. We had so many matches originally where people would pick a person that they realized if they could defeat some of their opponents squad they could defeat both people at that point. Also it stopped the cause of the rule and that was picking the arbitrary person in front of you that has nothing to do with the match you are currently working in to go so that you still get to go firsrt basically and it screws over the other opponent.

That sounds great, and I'm going to start doing that. Once I finish one of my sets, I might even be able to print out the cards!

Of course, it's really easy for me to do that since I'm the only one in my area that plays.

One of our house rules (one that we forget to use a lot...lol).

A force user can spend a force point to open a closed door (one that's not overridden shut). Just needs to be able to see the door. At the end of the force users turn, the door closes (unless they moved to a position that will keep the door open).

The other one we used alot was with force users. All froce users gained Lightsaber Defense 16. Also when any character used lightsaber (deflect/defense) they gaine the benefit like reflect if they rolled a natural 20. Also they gained the abillity to cut open a door in a round if they replaced their attacks next to one.

Right now we are going back to basics. We only play with rebel storm and clone strike pieces. The first thing we did before we even started was dump aurra sing in exchange for zuckuss. So far it's a lot of fun, rebels and empire need a bit of help to equal the strength of clone strike JEDI and Sith (never thought I would say that) so far it's fun.

Are goal is to create a balance before and after we add in each set using substitutions from later sets. Eventually when the game catches up to her power level, aurra will be added back in.

That really does sound like a good time. Perhaps I will mention this to my group and see where it goes.
