just want to be clear on this. regarding effects that take place when hit (poison, paralysis, etc). if you evade/block/deflect, you just avoid the damage but the effect still takes place. correct?

Poison is assessed at the "damage" step of a hit. If someone evades, parries, lightsaber defensed an attack, then the damage isn't assessed or bonus damage tabulated.

Jolt, Paralysis, Eletrostaff and such are tabulated when the attack is successful or "when hit."

Ex: Naga Sadow attacks Vodo and hits him. Vodo parries with a save of 11. Vodo successfully saves so the hit counts but the damage is negated. Therefore, Vodo doesn't have to roll a save 16.

Ex 2: Vodo is hit by Jarael's shockstaff. Although, Vodo can parry the melee attack, he can only seperately save the Shockstaff save. He rolls the parry successfully and takes no damage but must save vs the Shockstaff.

I hope that helps.

so since naga just says "20 damage to living target, save 16" it implies a hit is required. but if it says "when this character hits, save 11 for such n such effect" then it doesnt need the damage. thanks

If this is the case then, how does say Djem So Style work w/ Lightsaber Block. If a character rolls and hits me, and I use LS Block to avoid the damage, does the Hit still take place and thus trigger a Djem So roll?

Yep, you avoided the damage, but you were hit.
