So, I was just reading a post about GENCON09 and they said that pretty much everyone was playing speedy 2.0. Now, being a relative novice who - trapped in a still relatively Minis-free New Zealand (we're working on it) - doesn't get to play many tournaments like this (not many, if any...), I am quite confused by 'speedy 2.0' or 'viable' or 'B&B' (which as far as I can tell is Bread and Breakfast?)... etc.

So, here is your opportunity to teach me, and maybe a few others, what in the world these thingees mean. Consider this the Squad Nickname Glossary is you will. How many are there? What are they? Who's in them? What is the air velocity of a fully unladen swallow?

rule.

It refers to a squad name. In particular a Luke's Landspeeder squad. Here is a similar one made by Bill

If you ever visit WotC forums (although they will be offline for a week starting on 8/20/09) there is a stickied thread under the General Forum with Important Threads and Links and a link to the Term Guide 2.0 has a lot of what you might be looking for. I copied the "common squads" part below, but the thread has a lot more info that is worth checking out.

http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=944776

(...) "Sings" - A squad type that includes Aurra Sing (CS) as a back-up shooter, usually with a beatstick up front (i.e. Exar Sings)

B&B - Uses (either version of) Thrawn and Mas to swap a version of Vader, usually Lord Vader, all over the board for massive damage output while controlling initiative.

Broken Boba - A squad that uses Boba BH, 2 JWMs, and Doombot with filler (GenCon Winner 07)

Cannon Squads - These squads utilize powerful shooters with commanders who grant extra attacks. Thus far, the most potent has been Speedy Cannon (GenCon Winner 08). See this thread for the basics.

CRuBLs - A squad that includes Han STA and NR Jedi, especially MJJ.

Han Cannon - Takes advantage of Han Scoundrel with Princess Leia's extra attack CE and OB1FS's abilities to make Han a powerful, high-damage shooter

JWM swarm - A Republic squad that uses 3+ JWMs, almost certainly R2 Astro, and probably a commander of some sort

Nom Bombs - A Vong squad that utilizes Nom Anor's "superstealth" commander effect to get close to an enemy and then blow up.

San squads - Squads based around the use of San Hill's commander effect; these squads often rely on mobile attackers and opportunists.

Speedy Cannon - A variant on Han Cannon that uses Luke's Snowspeeder to run interferenece (GenCon winner 08).

_NickName_'s SWM Metagame Thread lists several more. http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=771764)

"Viable" is a pretty new squad invented by Owaller3 as an answer to the GOWK meta. It revolves around using Palps on throne as a battery for Vader Unleashed's crazy-good Force powers.

http://www.bloomilk.com/Squads/View.aspx?ID=29244

Rebel Push uses Vader's Apprentice and Luke HPU (hydraulic power unit!) along with the Rebel Toolbox usual bunch (Han Smuggler, that stupid Leia, Riekkan, Dodonna). It was also built as a counter to GOWK.
