No, because Diplomat states that you cannot target OR attack them. (if Diplomat is in affect)

You can take the Aoo if diplmot is not in effect or in other words if the diplomat character is the only one you can see just as you would normal be able to attack a diplomat

As these fine gentleman explained, only way to even be able to target a diplomat would be if you can see no other characters, through cover etc anywhere. Now if you can see another character & that character has diplomat as well then you still cant attack the first character with diplomat. Just as long as you cant see any other character that doesnt have diplomat you cant target a diplomat. Now if the diplomat is the only character period you can see & you cant see anyone else, then you can target the diplomat.

Key is to try to position your figure when attacking a diplomat to where you cant see anyone else. Thats what i do.

another option is that you can make an AoO against a diplomat by using overwhelming force, as both restrictions of the diplomat ability are bypassed: targeting (AoO does not require targeting) and attacking (attacks under overwhelming force can not be prevented)

would Unleash the Force 60, Force Lightning and other area attacks affect a diplomat since it is not the target char.

Unleash the Force, Force Repulse, and other similar abilities affect Diplomats because they do not target.

Force Lightning does target and cannot affect a Diplomat if another non-Diplomat is in LoS (along with Push, Flamethrower, etc).

If you were to use the ability on a character adjacent to the diplomat they would still take the splash damage would they not, as only the original target needs to be legal?

the situation i was thinking about with force lightning (specifically 2,3 & 5) is as follows:

Diplomat: D
Force User: F
other char: O
empty space: X

XXXX
XXFX
XXXX
XDOX
XXXX

The force user targets char O with force lightning (2,3,5). Since those particular force lightning abilities have a splash affect then can the splash hit the diplomat.

In that case, the Dip is being affected, but not targeted. It works as you describe.

Basically if a Diplomat character is adjacent to a character that you can hit with an ability that affects adjacent characters as well, then the diplomat character can be affected. Diplomat just states that you cant target that character for an attack or SA because it is not a legal target if you have LOS to any non diplomat characters.. You can however target other characters adjacent to the diplomat if they are a legal target with lets say, splash, grenades, repulse etc. You just can target a Diplomat character, so any character adjacent to the diplomat that doesnt have the diplotmat SA & is a legal target for you to target, then the diplomat character can be affected by abilities that the target adjacent to the diplomat would take that affects adjacent characters.
