Great win DarkDracul! congrats on being our new champion! haveing played against your team in the semi-finals i saw first hand how difficult it was to do well against. was a very close game and that was one of the most fun matchups i've had! you built a top notch squad and it didn't need Bib fortuna to make the HC squad do well.

Congrats DD!!

Mother Talzin is one of my favorite characters in the show and seems so powerful. Even crossing blades with Mace for a second.

Mandos and maybe a talzin squad. Sorry the meta isn't open, it would be better if peeps speed thinking it was.
Yep.

New Republic and Old Republic are 100% out of anyone's radar. What people have done to the OR is maddening.

It is kind of difficult to post because I am a newcomer and don't know the procedures and I am definitely keeping hush hush about any names. Maybe they don't know either or maybe it is not a problem at all. So risking embarrassment I want to know if I should count on the person I am practicing with to keep my squad secret or should I count myself "risking it" when I practice for a big event

I tried really hard to get prepared for the Championship and felt prepared. I am really sad I missed it. I had a ton of fun on Thursday even though I werent prepared for that at all. My question is when you practice with someone, what is the protocol for keeping other squads under wraps? I saw at least 2 perfect copies of squads that were used in practice against me that were used by other people in the tournament. I definitely thought about those squads after playing them to try to counter them if I were to play against that squad. We all knew about the tarre vizsla/ vindicated squad so I am not counting that in this post. It seems a little unsportsmanlike to do that with someone you know is planning on playing in the tournament. I don't want to rustle any feathers I just want to know what to expect going forward. I know that I do not want my squad used in other practices against other opponents. I practiced with 5 different people and i now know who I will practice with in the future from those 5 anyway.

U ... keep in mind that no one squad is anyone's 'patented' squad. I get you want to keep the squad you are wanting to play a secret, but sometimes other people have duplicates of your squad. There's only so many variations of the 'good' squads. Expect to see mirrors/copies.

Claiming a particular squad as 'your' design only leads to trouble. Play the game to have fun!

Of course that is the case, especially for the different talon and jabba and mando variants that everyone knows about.

if you play that type of squad you do so knowing that others know about it.

However, the squads I made mention of are not of that type.

If that is the general consensus then I will just pick more closely who to share information with.

Selling out of squads is definitely part of the game. There are some sly players out there that will do anything to get ahead. I can only think of 2 left to be honest. Most people know who they are. The type that serve themselves. It goes as far as balance committee and design as well.

It is definitely unsportsmanlike and should be frowned upon. There are, however, no rules against it. When you sit down to practice do so knowing that that individual will make reference to your squad in some sort of way. I would clarify with whoever you are testing with that they will not reveal your squad to others and that you will do the same. A little verbal contract if you will. You are definitely smart to be very choosy with your squad and who you choose to reveal it to.

Not sure which squads you are referring to as being revealed, but there are only 16 squads so I can do a quick rundown. There weren't many surprises in there.

Talzin is a known power piece and was expected to be present in this tournament. We saw her in combination with Talon (urbanjedi), Jabba DT (DarkDracul), and Thrawn (TimmerB). No surprises there.

UrbanShmi ran Raskta + Wookiee Commander. Wookiee Commander squads aren't new, but Raskta is brand new with Set 21.

thereisnotry has been running low-activation Mandalorian squads for a long time. I couldn't have guessed the exact variation, but I would have guessed low-act Mandos for him. No surprise there.

Darth O ran Yobuck/Tarpals/Panaka. It's a variation of a squad I know best as "Yoda's Friends Throw Their Toys". Etienne (atmsalad/DarthFrenchy) finished first in Swiss using a similar squad about 3 years ago.

Randy ran the Triumvirate. He's had success with it in the past. If I had to guess what he'd play, I probably wouldn't have guessed Triumvirate, but it would've been one of my first 3 guesses for him. Not really a surprise.

Caedus has been one of our most consistent Vong players. (The other, juice_man, stopped playing a few years ago.) It looked like Jabba DT was going to dominate the meta, and he did. I'm guess that since Jabba relies more on CEs than Force powers, he went with Bastila over Vong. Bastila has been a power 11 piece since Vset 1, so it's never really a surprise to see her.

AceAce had Obi-Ani and Mace Legacy. More than one person had mentioned Obi-Ani as an option for this meta.

Kez's squad was probably the biggest surprise to me. Yoda Hero of Genesis had a broken Reserves combination before the floor rules update that prevented stacking Reserves on the same initiative roll. I don't think I've seen him since.

DarthJim's was another squad that surprised me. I haven't seen Cradossk paired with NR before.

Mando has a novel combination of attackers for a JabbaDT squad, but a JabbaDT-Bib squad just won New Zealand, so it isn't surprising to see one here, too.

I ran a Dance of Death squad, to no one's surprise. It's my 5th time running some version of Caedus in the championships (3 times with Mines and twice with Warb Null). It's a squad that will surprise someone if they haven't seen it before and don't know what I'm trying to do, but I've been trying it for 7 years. So no surprise there.

Greg ran Sidious/Vader of Lothal, a popular combination that urbanjedi took to the finals a couple years ago. Fitting Boba in that squad was something I don't remember seeing before, though.

Angus's squad wasn't something I expected. Talon is very common, but I haven't seen much of Dryden Vos/Mercenaries.

Spry ran The Talondorian in the team tournament, so it wasn't a surprise.

The squads of UrbanShmi, Kez, DarthJim, and Angus are the only ones that I'd consider a surprise. If it was any of the others, then it just means that whoever ran them against you was paying attention.

We have a difference of opinion. My opinion is that squad types (Jabba/Bib for example) can be very very diverse. Each with its own merits. I practiced against myself quite a bit to see who would be brought Tarre Vizsla or Jango Fett. I couldn't figure it out, but I do know that the 2 squads can play very very differently with the switch of but 1 character. The supporting cast are the surprises that should not be given away.

Still not sure which squads or person you're talking about, but in terms of spry and tint's Mandalorian squads (if one of those squads is what you're talking about), those exact squads had already been run in the previous days/months. They both seem like players who wouldn't reveal their planned squads for the championship, so if you saw someone else playing them it was probably just a matter of them picking up an existing squad from a good player - no necessarily a matter of someone revealing a secret. Or, for that matter, maybe coincidentally re-creating it. When you're talking about a 6-character squad there are only so many combinations.

Someone exactly created my 9-activation Resistance squad that I ran in the Team Tournament:
http://www.bloomilk.com/Squad/228599/numb-sneezy-bowcasters--2021-vassalcon-team-tournament-

It's private so I don't know who did it, but we both stumbled on exactly the same combination. In any case, I think we can agree that secrets should be kept.

Udor...backing up...I didn't fully understand what you were implying...or rather...stating. As with any other competition, there will be those that try to exploit angles...as someone else just mentioned. Sad but true. Cursing

Follow the advice above from J and from others in this thread and just be smart/sly about how and when you reveal your squads...especially for playtesting. For me...it was sort of fun to reveal a "unique" squad and see my opponent's face. Actually, it got to be a thing for all the players to gather around and see what I would play. Not that they were always great squads, but I held my own...back in the day. Wink

Maybe in the near future I'll but up for some of that testing. It's been far too long for me... Blushing
