Hey everyone, the new Galactic Escalation tournament is starting soon! Mando was the genius behind the first GE event in 2022, and now he's asked me to step in and run the event this Fall.
In conversations during lead-up to the start of this event, there have been conversations about whether or not to add more rounds or a higher point total. We discussed a number of possibilities, including a 500pt Epic round (see below), and I could see benefits to any of the above options. So please vote for your preference and also make a brief post, describing your thoughts and if you'd be fine with options other than the one you chose.
Mando's Galactic Escalation events have always had high participation from the community, and my desire is that this would continue. Therefore, I'm holding this poll to see what would interest the most people...whatever is most popular (ie, would draw the most participants) is what we'll go with.
This poll will be up for 3 days and then I'll make a decision on Friday and post the sign-up thread for this season's GE tournament.

Regarding the question of whether or not to include a 500pt Epic round as part of the Galactic Escalation event: I love the 500pt epic format! And it sounds like fun to gradually build up to that level, using the Escalation format. However...I think we all know that 500pt Epic can become pretty broken, pretty quickly. At our recent 500pt Epic event at Vassal Con, I decided that we needed to both ban Bastila/ABM, and also limit the number of functional CEs to 3. With these restrictions in place, the event seemed to run well and it was fairly competitive (even though the freakin' Vong won it! ). So if we were to add this format to the GE event, we would need to implement some sort of restrictions. The challenge for including this in the GE tournament is that people build their GE squads with a view to supreme effectiveness at the highest point total...and so if we implemented the restrictions that (IMO) are necessary in order to have a non-broken 500pt match, that would unnecessarily skew what people would play during the prior rounds. And so, despite how much I enjoy the format, I think it's best to simply not include a 500pt Epic round in this Fall's GE tournament.

I personally would like to see a change in round point values. It's been 100, 150, 200, 350 since season 2. I think the extra 25pts gives a little more squad flexibility early because it makes it hard for other things to realistically work. I think that you could make the Epic work but make ppl choose only 3 CE's to have at 500 and ABM is banned at 500. I'm in favor of the 3rd option. I'd like to see a change from round 4 into the playoffs. I think it would be fun to add stuff for the playoff rounds. That would be my suggestions.

I love the Epic format as well. I don't mind the banning of Bastila and the 3 CE's restriction. I would also vote to ban Tulak and the Dark Force Nexus. My vote would have been for this; 100, 150, 200, 375 ( with the 4th rnd bringing an Epic miniature and 1 mini of your choice )If participants don't like the Epic 4th rnd option, I voted with the #1 option, to keep it the same. I would also like to add a 5th round, but it's getting kinda late, and with most GE's ending around the beginning to middle of Dec, I'm afraid that it would bleed into late December, which would make it difficult to get matches in too close to the major December holiday. I would have voted the #3 option if it would have read the following; 125, 175, 225, 375 ( this gives us the flexibility of 150pts, 2-3 minis, that make the 4th round and playoff rounds so much fun! )Either way, I love the GE tourney, and can't wait until we start

Speaking logically, the [100, 150, 200, 250, 350 (5 rounds)] option won't work well because EPICs cost more than 100pts, so unless you Escalate one of your pieces then you can't have an epic... I like the changed point totals idea, though - some squads I've been considering just don't have three 50pt minis in that specific subfaction so the squad can't Escalate properly.

I voted the third option. Similar to what Spry said, the extra 25 pts early is nice, especially since I was 2 pts short in my first draft of the squad I wanted to do lol. Going up to 375 would be cool, but personally I find it hard to optimally fill out the 150 points, much less 175 points for 3 guys.

Hi-Fives wrote:Going up to 375 would be cool I like Hi-Fives idea of raising the 4th rnd to 375 pts, because 125pts for 2-3 minis is super limiting. The fun for me in the escalation process is the ability to bring in the super high point characters that we would never ever usually play. Also the 150pt 4th rnd cap, makes it easier, especially if you bring in a 100pt character, which is always a fun thing to do, if Epics aren't going to be allowed

That would be fine with me. Good idea. If the 3rd option wins out then it seems like that would be a good option. Please comment if you DON'T like this idea.

This is your last day to vote in the poll! As it currently stands, we'll be going with the following point breakdown: 125, 175, 225, 375
Yes, this is adding an extra 25pts to the final round. However, this is not set in stone; if you'd prefer that we go with 125, 175, 225, 350 then please speak up...today.

I like 125, 175, 225, 375.
I'd like to see an additional point level for playoffs. Maybe add 1 character that's X points or less.

Public Service Announcement: We will be going with the squad build totals of 125, 175, 225, 375. Please go ahead and start building your squads.
I've got a busy day today, and so I'll make the official sign up post with all the normal info tonight. I've been wrestling back-and-forth about whether to ban any pieces for this event, and which pieces to ban, since we currently have so many pieces up for discussion....
What I've come up with is this: no pieces will be banned for this event, whatsoever (apart from Admiral Daala, who is still banned from existence until further notice). The only restriction will be that Tulak Horde loses SSM during the 125pt round. Apart from that, no restrictions or bans whatsoever. If players use pieces that are currently being discussed for the Balance Committee to address, then it could be that this event might simply provide further input for those discussions.
