I suppose this is also a question about Rival generally. For this particular piece, his Rival states that he cannot be with any non-Imperial character who is not a non-Unique Droid. Does this trump Affinity and commander effects?
That is to say, if you bring in other faction characters with Affinity (Darth Vader Sith Apprentice) or Emperor Palpatine Sith Lord, I believe that means that they then count as Imperial (I'm not 100% sure about the commander effect so if that is wrong that would also be helpful to know). Does Rival prevent them from even being added to your team with Affinity?
Further, would they then count as Imperial for the purposes of his commander effect? I know the answer for Affinity is yes, but again I am not sure about Palpatine's commander effect actually changing faction.
Thank you!

Affinity makes the character brought in the same faction as the squad's. Commander effects don't do that unless they state otherwise.
You can play characters brought in via Affinity (e.g. Mas Amedda) with IGA Thrawn but not a Clone Trooper via Palpatine SL's CE as the Trooper would be Republic.
