I looked at the rules but don't understand them. I have never played DCI, but my friend of mine is insisting on it (I highly suspect it's just so he doesn't have to deal with my GOWK). How does it work squad-wise? Is it by faction, or Light/Dark side? Any comments and explanations would be greatly appreciated.

Squads obey the standard rulebook Faction rules (one faction plus Fringe), unless otherwise stated.
This includes the Dynamic Duo format.

Standard squad-building - 100, 150, or 200 points, one faction + fringe.

Gambit (each time a round starts and a player has at least one piece within 4 movement of the center of the map, that player scores 5 points) is standard.

Game ends at the end of a round in which either
a) one hour has passed from the start of the game, or
b) one player has scored (between enemy pieces defeated and Gambit) at least as many points as the game's build total

No GOWK

Limited map selection

Does fringe count as a faction? Ie: Can you play a fringe only team for DCI?

You can make a pure fringe squad for a DCI event.

Big D= Disintegration

He's currently banned because one lucky role destroys 50 percent of the other person's squad instantly. Not very balanced for DD. So, he will be allowed back in the future, just that SA won't count in that format.

Just in case you come back and read this, can I suggest a tweak?

Instead of saying "No disintigrations"(Which is hillarious in it's own right, thematically), instead just have every piece be treated as Collosal for the purposes of Disintigration.

That way Boba's (considerable) points towards that power are still going somewhere, but he doesn't just vaporize instantly, instead doing the 40 or 60 damage(I don't remember offhand exactly how much, but I thought it was 60) he normally would to a colossal fig.

Just a thought.

The converted 40 damage instead of instant defeat is for Huge or larger. ;)

Disintegration is an extra +40 damage on Huge or Larger, so Boba BH does 80 damage instead of immediately defeating on a Huge or Larger. I think even in the Dynamic Duo format, 80 damage on one piece would greatly swing the game. It's much easier to just say that pieces lose the Disintegration ability from their card. If you do other things like consider the pieces Collossal, then it could cause other problems with things like the starting area, squeezing, etc.

Ah, yes. Easy to forget, that.

Even without The Big D, Boba is going to be a force to be reckoned with. Boba Bounty Hunter (awesome shooter) + Kol Skywalker (awesome swordsman) should be a tough nut to crack.

Agreed re:squeezing and what have you, that's why I said "collosal for the purposes of disintagration" (well, with at typo.)

But yea, it probaby is easier to just say "no remove it", it just seems like that had to refect somewhere in BFBH's enourmous point cost.

Edited, typo from "removing", to "remove"

Well, yes and no. I believe Rob said at one point a while back that Boba was actually not supposed to have Accurate Shot, or something like that. He's a pretty solid piece even without Disintegration. Compare him to Cad Bane, he might be a tad under-powered now, but the extra 40 HP, Accurate Shot, +2 Attack, and Flamethrower make a nice difference that probably accounts for the extra 8 points without too much headache.
