Dean,

Who should be contacted at WTC to get a solution for bringing GOWK back?

Reiterating my proposed solution, which wasn't original to me but seems like the easiest fix...

change SSM:

Soresu Style Mastery: When hit by an attack, this character takes no damage unless the attacker makes a save of 11.

That still gives defense of about 50% (less when facing force users who can reroll), but GOWK's rerolls and Mettle wouldn't apply to SSM. He'd still find them useful for other saves and for attacks, though.

Hmm? I really don't get all the bother about the GOWK issue. He's already more or less been replaced by Yoda, and has a second modile out and had a second version released that was toned down. Then theres the fact it only applied to the competive scene as it should. He was practically invincable.

Of course, he's the only figure thats ever been banned along side boba in a very restrictive setting, and if he were to return, he would be as staple as Mas is in Imperial and Republic.

After all, it's not Wizards who banned him, it's DCI. They suggested that he be errated, they refused, so he was banned indefinately from tourneys until such a edit took place. Rather then change him, they released Jet Pack Obi later on with alterations, including removal of Master of the Force 2. (Which was partly why he was broken) renewal (Not really a huge issue in most games, since it's the equivalent of 3 turns of renewal.) and changed the effect (+4 Attack and Defence granted by such a strong defensive charcter meant that everyone is tougher until you manage to kill him. Which due to defensive abilitys, was not really possible considering the rest of the shooting support)

Grand Master Yoda is good, but he doesn't even come close to being as good as GOWK.

Aye, though GOWK was practically indistuctable in the hands of a careful player. The commander effect on such a figure with staying pressence litrally meant that as long as him and mas stayed on the field, everyone was tougher, and there was not a chance of breaking that strength advantage unless you either killed Obi, or somehow killed Mas. The catch being that GOWK's support would probably cut in to inflict harsh losses. ><;

In the hands of a general player, he tends to be fine, but in the hands of a player who wants to win, you bet that every aspect of his charcter would be used to the extremest effectiveness.

Anyways, probably aware that this topics not for the debate, sorry about that. ^^; I was just stating what lead to his ban, just as a small note. I will remain quiet now. ^__^

if there was an easy solution, they would have fixed it already.

GOWK's command effect never depended on Mas although getting the same from GMY does need the blue man to spread the love. GOWK's effect requires ALLIES to be close enough while GMY's effect is Range 6 so Mas doesn't help GOWK as he already has a board wide effect.

GOWK probably should have some changes to make it "legal" to play again but that is like beating a dead horse.

Keep in mind, Flobi was already finished well, well before GOWK was banned. Flobi sort of emphasizes GOWK's brokenness. Keep in mind any change to ssm will severely hurt Flobi's playability. And any errata to GOWK himself will be a pain to enforce.

Why does this subject keep coming up at least once a month?
I like GOWK, don't get me wrong. But it's been months since the banhammer came down on him for DCI events. I see no reason to discuss bringing him back anymore. Similar to what Maverick said, if there was a way to bring him back, it would have already been done.

QFT.

Can we not get over this one piece and move on, people? There's 600+ other ones to play with, why does everyone seem to care about this one so much?

Even if a fix happened, he would still be banned till the DCI update. Or Jan.

People... it is sad to say, but GOWK will never be fixed, for the present or the future. Mainly is because since the Original Designer Rob left WOTC, and brought Peter Lee... GOWK is considered the "holy grail" of Rob's last work before he departs. Therefore, Peter Lee, will not dare disturb the work or make effort to bring GOWK back to life. That is all....

You could probably make money if you charged people for your ability to read the future.

So maybe GOWK was really just a "Last Act of Defiance" piece? Tongue
