You have to create a room first. You just type whatever name you want your room to have in the little box on the right hand side.

Then when it appears, you go to the menu and click new game, choose a side and choose a map.

Right click on an existing room and select join room. Then right click on one of the people in the room and select syncronise.

Most people in the room will be watching, but to be sure it is usually best to syncronise with one of the players. Most people name their room after the players so it is usually easy to figure out.
