In a couple of years my oldest will be old enough to watch the movies. The question is - do we start with episode 1 and move forward chronologically? Or start with episode IV and move forward in the order they were released?

First time through, I would follow the order they were released. There's more mystery about Vader and the Emperor in the OT that way and you get to learn about things along with the characters. Starting with the PT might also lead to a let down for the little one in lightsaber fights and effects in the OT and he'll miss the story and fun ride.

Classic, then original. But make sure to add the 2-D Clone Wars series between II and III.

On another forum somewhere, there was this suggestion:
1, 2, (Cartoon series and movie), 4, 5, 3, 6
Meet Anakin, watch him grow into a Jedi hero. Fast-forward to Episode IV - oh no! He was killed! Big reveal in Episode 5. Episode 3 to tell of his fall. Episode 6 to tell of his redemption (and it ends with a happy ending).

OT > PT Although I think this is a good order: 4, 1, 2, 5, 3, 6

Watch A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and the Return of the Jedi and then wait for them to grow up and have their childhood ruined when they watch TPM, AOTC, and ROTS.

Amen brother! That is what I intend to do. I just don't know if I can go 15 years or so watching only the classic trilogy and foregoing my daily fix of Jar Jar . TBH I want to show them the original cinematic releases first so they don't think Boba Fett is from New Zealand, when he is actually a gravelly Englishman!

My son is one and a half and doesn't really care what order they play in. His favorite is probably Empire Strikes Back, he think Yoda is hilarious.
