Assuming you know Chewbaccas fate, then they won't spoil anything for you as far as the NJO books go.
Rescues, continues the story established in the original story arc and I believe it will be ongoing in that sense following the garidiananasasanns or however you spell that last name lol

They follow their own character arc focused on a family not the characters from NJO. So your good, except for the death of a certain character is alluded to, which is a pretty big deal in the books. I would say go for it though. They are unique enough to give you a different outlook and not spoil the man story.

For the most part, it takes place early on in the war. Probably just after Ithor, I think.

Speaking of Ithor, and hijacking a thread, but I am currently reading book number 3 in the NJO series, and it seems the New Republic is gearing up to defend Ithor. I have been reading the book for about a year now, and must say, I have forgotten why the Vong are even planning to attack it. Can anyone enlighten me?

If I recall correctly its because its an entirly fertile planet and they plan to destroy it and make it a 'ship yard' to manufacture coral skippers and other organic weapons, also that and its in the path on the way to the core worlds which they have been following, that was the best book so far that I have read, in only on 5 though XD
