I notice you can change squads and customs to friends only, but I don't know how to designate anyone as a friend. Anyone else know?

I've noticed that too, and assume it is a feature not yet fully implemented, though I haven't asked Shinja about it. I am intrigued as to what may be in store in future site updates.

It may hint to a possible 'Friends and Foes' feature like on Gamers. I suggested it a while back :)

Hehe, I see some good uses for this. Block the other players at your LGS from looking at the squads you're building.  [edit: of course you can just keep them private ]
