Hello, SWM Family!
I was going to wait to post this until next week, but I saw people looking for squad ideas and I thought--why not? Just a few things to keep in mind as we head to Indy in 10 days or so (yikes!)
1. Space: Those of you who played with us in events prior to the pandemic will recall that we usually had our own area designated for us all weekend with a head table and everything. This is no longer the case. We have attempted to request one, but so far have not been assigned our own area. That means that you cannot assume that currently unoccupied tables near where we are playing are designated for us. We have had some issues with gamers spreading to adjoining table and having to pack up mid-match when the group using the table at that time showed up.
2. Attendance: Many of our events are sold out or very nearly sold out. However, almost all of them will be able to accommodate a couple of extras with generic tickets (within the space constraints already discussed.
3. Preparation: It is not necessary to know the ins and outs of every map and every ability in the game. However, at a minimum, for each event you participate in, please make sure to know what your squad does (enough that you can explain it to your opponent) and your general plan for your map. Your opponents and your EOs will thank you!
4. Schedules: Don't forget about the "non-tournament" events! A lot of work has gone into these more casual experiences and they are also an opportunity to play with people outside our immediate sphere.
5. Self-care: Hydrate and bring snacks. And plan time for meals, too.
6. Sportsmanship: Be someone people enjoy competing with. Stiff and cutthroat competition is great, but please remember that this is supposed to be fun.
Jason, James, and I (and all our other wonderful game runners) are so excited to see you all and compete and just geek out over our favorite hobby. Can't wait for Gen Con!
