Special Abilities

  • Droid (Immune to critical hits; not subject to commander effects)
  • Speed 8 (Can move up to 8 squares and attack, or 16 squares without attacking)
  • Triple Attack (On its turn, this character can make 2 extra attacks instead of moving)
  • Single-Shot Blaster (This character cannot gain Twin Attack)
  • Splash 10 (If this character's attack hits, all characters adjacent to the target take 10 damage; save 11. If the attack misses, the target and all adjacent characters take 10 damage; save 11.)
  • Damage Reduction 10 (Whenever this character takes damage, reduce the damage dealt by 10. Attacks with lightsabers ignore this special ability.)
  • Near-Proximity Weaknesses (Adjacent enemies ignore this character's Damage Reduction when making attacks.)
  • Virulent Poison Cloud 30 (When this character is defeated, each adjacent living character takes 30 damage and is considered activated this round; save 16.)

Developed by the Techno Union to increase the versatility of the Separatist droid forces, Octuptarra Droids often contained virulent toxin strains within their spherical heads which released upon their destruction.

To begin, I first believe that Single-Shot Blaster is the most important aspect of this piece, as it prevents this piece from simply replacing the B3 Ultra Battle Droid by losing access to Triple/Twin. Secondly, I believe that Near-Proximity Weaknesses will balance the piece, encouraging adjacent attacks and luring opponents into VPC30 (I would have used Weak Spots 10 for this ability, but it reduces Damage Reduction "to" 10, not "by" 10).

Splash 10 gives it a slight edge, in order to increase its offensive capabilities against crowds/swarms. Virulent Poison Cloud is the most interesting aspect of this piece, which is mostly based on Virulent Paralyzing Poison from Demagol.

Good piece. I think an argument could be made for it to have some form of Missiles (thus making it even stronger with Sev'rance), but it's great as it is. The combination of Near-Proximity Weakness with Virulent Poison Cloud 30 was a nice idea. 10.
