Special Abilities

  • Unique. Melee Attack, Double Attack.
  • Synergy (An ally with Luke in its name gets +4 Attack while within 6 squares)
  • Yoda, You Seek Yoda (At the start of the skirmish choose an ally with a lower cost who counts as Luke Skywalker or Leia Organa Solo. For the rest of the skirmish that ally gains Agile, Djem So Style, and Jedi Reflexes and is considered to have a Lightsaber. Once per round the ally may use one of this character's Force Powers with a cost of at least 1 Force point as though they were their own.)

Force Powers

  • Force 4. Force Renewal 1. Master of the Force 2.
  • Force Essence (When this character is defeated, you may immediately set up a character named Yoda, Jedi Spirit in the square this character formerly occupied. Any "at the start of the skirmish" instances are immediately resolved.)
  • Force Defense (Force 3: Cancel a Force power used by a character within 6 squares)
  • Force Sense (Force 1, usable only on this character's turn: Enemy characters lose Stealth for the rest of the round)
  • Levitation 3 (Force 3, replaces attacks: Move 1 ally within 6 squares to any unoccupied square within 6 squares. This move does not provoke attacks of opportunity.)
  • Lightsaber Defense (Force 1: When hit by an attack, this character takes no damage with a save of 11)

YoD is a cool piece and was "out of the box" in its design back in the day. Rather than replace that piece, my goal was to make a more focused version of the character and his unique relationship with Luke. Pulling from ESB, I wanted to give a nod to his lifting Red5 out of the muck with an escalated version of Levitation. Force Essence seemed overdue for Yoda and fit the theme here. The abilities tie him strongly to Luke and are aimed to make some versions of him more competitive.

You should give him something so that Luke gains "Yoda's Mount" or something.

Luke's Backpack? I feel like I may have done that on an old custom. Good idea, CC. Thanks.

Great Dagobah build though I'm assuming light saber defense is just for Luke/Leia to be able to use it? As I think he lost his blade on Coruscant. Other than that spot on and great use of force essence

Screw Leia, just luke buffs. Kind of tiptoed around the non-commander parameter, but who cares, This is really awesome!

I love force essence in Rebels! renewal 1 keeps it tough to use levitation 3 for more than 1 turn. I do not like the idea of Leia gaining Djem So. I also do not fully understand how this character will hope a Leia Organa Solo, since it is not New Republic. using a force power I do not know if I like having a Leia using Force defense or levitation 3. 2 very very powerful force abilities. But I do love the idea behind the mentor and I do love the assortment of FA that this Yoda has

Y,YSY is really cool, but does the last part mean that when Luke dies he can turn into Yoda, Force Spirit?

@jen'ari: Its worded as "counts as" so any Leia in a Rebel squad can benefit. With Yoda implying Leia is another hope, I figure she may have been recruited to fill the role of Jedi should something have happened with Luke. As such, and in an effort to give a bit more squad building options, I opted to include Leia.

@kamikaze13: LOL! Good catch. This would necessitate a glossary entry preventing this.

I like that idea and see how it fits, but I do not see her getting Djem So. Anyway that can change? As is, can a Leia without a lightsaber gain djem so?

I was thinking YYSY may need to specify that the character is considered to have a Lightsaber in addition to the other benefits. Djem So may not be as fitting for Leia as it was for Luke. Justification for it applying to Leia, beyond simplicity of wording, is that Yoda may have taught Djem So to Luke to neutralize one of Vader's strengths and therefore may have taught it to Leia in the scenario she became the last hope.

UPDATE: Changed wording of YYSY to add "has a Lightsaber" and added cost to second line to prevent use of Force Essence. May not be needed since this Yoda being on the table precludes Luke from bringing in ghost Yoda due to Unique.

@GG: Yes, its primarily for Luke/Leia's benefit. However, someone like Yoda would likely have the materials to construct a Lightsaber handy or know how to procure them. I find it tough to believe anything less of a Grand Master. It's also tough to fathom that he would forego owning a saber as he foresaw training Anakin's offspring to kill Palps.

@GG: Furthermore, he'd need one to train Luke in the use of a saber to take him from the rudimentary skills shown to him by Obi on the Falcon to hanging (to a degree) with Vader in a duel on Cloud City. My guess is that we would have seen saber training in ESB had FX tech been sufficient to have the muppet more mobile.

With Luke/Leia able to use Yoda's Force Renewal, I went with FR1 to prevent them from loading up on Force. However, Yoda will be burning through FPs so I upped his starting to 4 points.
