Interesting stuff. Wraith squadron and galactic alliance combos it looks like. Will take time to search through them

The Ant Ranger Tactical Soldier from v-set 14 gives all Antarians Trooper, which opens up stuff like Mirith Sinn, Kenth Hamner—also why I avoided Rep/OR Affinity—to explore underused NR pieces. You can get the Rangers into Leia/Resistance squads as well, but lose access to other boosts.

I seriously considered going the Antarian route before landing on SpecForce. Expert Spotter is delicious! I'm not too crazy about the "within 6" abilities, though. I guess he is a "forward" Spotter?

@saber, yes. I'm following WotC on that, though I would prefer him to send other spotters forward first. Forward spotting has always been a risky proposition, but handing out Crack Shot and Expert Spotter are meant to mitigate that somewhat. I settled on NR only for this piece because I feel there are some less obvious (or less considered) synergies there, depending on the build. I'm open to any/all suggestions since my Mando entry didn't have much to work with (jen'ari's entry is clean and efficient there).

You've got some heavy duty abilities there. North of 30, probably 35. Possible +13/40 damage a shot; if he ever got Double/Twin ....

Thanks for the feedback, surf. :) I respectfully disagree he's worth 30, much less higher. He's a Spotter, and Spotter/Sniper buff, not so much an attacker (beyond combining). He can combine twice, but he (or other Spotters) need to be within 6 of target to use his nasty stuff, negating Stealth unless with Mirith Sinn's CE, which requires the 18pt Tactical Soldier. In NR, there are no options for Rangers to get Twin, and Double is followers only in Resistance, where you probably either forgo General Leia Organa or give up some other really good boosts.

Admittedly I haven't sorted all the possibilities, but I personally wouldn't cost this guy solely on his SAs. He needs help. You'll need the AR Captain for the CE, and the Tactical Soldier for trooper buffs. I put him a bit higher than the AR Captain, same stats. His Spotter/Crack Shot tricks entail being close to the enemy, old school WotC style, e.g. you most likely die after using them. He's important to boost the grunt Rangers' attack. You'll want room for as many AR as you can squeeze in, and some Force users for the bog-standard AR synergy.

Anyone else have thoughts on cost?

I'd say he costs 30. If we are thinking about him correctly he grants the +4 careful shot bonus, +4 combine fire and +20 damage, with Crack shot (at full capacity). That is a lot of buff and it is flexible with different people in the build, so if one dies, just use it with the next one. I would not want to go much over 30 because of the stipulation of being "up close and in the fight". I would want their to be enough room left for a good build and options.

to stay at 24, I would drop the granting crack shot.

That is a really good suggestion, because Ganner, at minimum. I'll do that, thanks!

Crack shot is an interesting ability; woyld it cost 3-4 pts? If more, than dropping it would definitely send it down to 24. If it's closer to 3-4, than its closer to a fair 26 ..... Antarian Rangers seem to be getting a lot of love lately. Surprised you didn't ad an Affinity for Any Republic.

I could add the standard Affinity. I just wanted to focus on Spotters to up the damage output as the Rangers have very few ways to get extra attacks in NR. NR has the most Spotters to work with, and some interesting CEs as well.

I think there is a bit much going on abilities-wise for his low cost and I've never been a big fan of that for complexity issues. I think dropping camaraderie, crack shot, or coordinated movement should go. But drop one of those and its a pretty nifty little commanddd

Seems like I might need to split this guy into 2 cheaper and more sharply focused characters. I tried to build a NR Ranger squad with him as is earlier today, and quickly ran out of points. :/
