Nice piece LB i love espionage!

Well, it's worded sorta differently, but isn't this the Spy ability? Only change is "not considered legal target" on Spy and you saying its a "Diplomat" who is also not considered a legal target .....

Espionage giving it Diplomat leaves a way to kill it, otherwise it can just move around, open doors, generally get in the way, etc while getting off Recon. Spy (as v-set designed) is an Epic-level SA.

It may not seem like much of a difference, but Diplomat interacts differently than Spy. I originally had a bit more to Espionage, but decided to simplify it. In the end it is basically what a "non-epic" version of spy could be. EDIT: Yeah, what swine said :)

I (wobbly) stand corrected ... never used Diplo's much ....

Interesting. If the opponent sets up first you might be able to use Infiltration, but I see it not being used more often than it is.

The flexibility here is great. I think you nailed it on this one. :)

Looks neat, and cool name to go along with him, and nice SA to theme his whole character out

I wonder if Infiltration/Espionage should have some kind of save 11. Setting up in my starting area, I may not be able to "See" another target and that would make your Diplo Turncoat a target right away and his stats would doom him.
Lord_Ball

He's not required to setup in your starting area, it's an option and the map would help determine if that choice is feasible. I could give him Evade or perhaps Override (simulating knowing the enemy codes) to help survivability.

Excellent addition. Wondering how much 30 HP would bump cost, as he might become a serious nuisance at that point. ;)
Lord_Ball

I like it. I think a bump in HP puts his cost in line with that of the R7.

I am totally against Manual Override on the piece.
Lord_Ball
2/22/2018 3:10:58 PM

Any particular reason why? I mean the idea behind the piece is he's a "Rebel", that is betraying them to the Imps (probably for a fat payday).
jen'ari
2/22/2018 3:14:49 PM

Yes I understand that part. I just hate door control that cant be targeted (cough See-Threepio)
surf_rider56
2/22/2018 3:20:52 PM

... just to be clear on Infiltration. It's enemy Starting Area or not in enemy side of board at all, right? Regarding Manual O; not sure it makes sense in that locking yourself in a room deprives him of Recon, to use it he has to expose himself, exposing himself means he's pretty much toast ....
jen'ari
2/22/2018 3:27:14 PM

He can open a door to see people though as well. I don't see him being used super often in the enemy starting area, but opening or locking a door can be huge when he can block the door and lock or unlock as needed. Or it could be lock a door to force the opponent to open it as well.

Infiltration is just the starting area and while it may be rather circumstantial, it would have it's use. As to manual override initial round he can recon then go lock himself away until its safe to come out (a reasonable tactic for someone intent on betraying his "allies"), or unlock a key door to help his imperial allies advance. Either way it fits as a tactic a turncoat is very likely to employ.

This piece should win a creativity award! Kudos.

You know, with Daala, this guy instantly goes to a 9/20... I know its not much, but if you run2/3 of these guys, you can wreck someones Commanders. Well worth it almost to sack 3 of these guys to kill some Door Control/Mas Amedda/ Dodonna/San Hill. You could actually kill something, then Manually Override a door so he can't be killed...
juice man
2/22/2018 6:14:43 PM

... unless they have override themselves or satchel charge. With no non-diplomats in line of sight, they are fair game. HOWEVER, if there is a Booming Voice connection to one of these bad boys, they can have medium base power house swapped in for them. Really close to the aforementioned commanders. Perhaps they need to be free of commander effects also? They are turncoats so maybe they are a little unruly too?
shmi15
2/22/2018 6:35:21 PM

I was saying you could take out their Door control with them. Uggies have 10 HP, and R7's have 40. I hadn't even thought about the Ultimate swap in Round 1!
Lord_Ball
2/22/2018 6:54:39 PM

Hmm that is an interesting idea, I just wonder if such a tactic is really viable - I mean if you swap in a key player they are basically exposed to the entire enemy squad. It's definitely a reasonable concern, I'll have to ponder that oversight. I could just make him as a small sized alien I suppose.

Small base would be a really simple fix. :)

I'm not sure how I feel about this guy, as Shmi mentioned with daala you could just spam a bunch of these guys and then wipe the floor with any fragile enemy commanders before the game even truly begins. And with Recon you have a good chance of being able to go first or go hard. I would advised swapping infiltration for forward posistioning, but I guess that's one of your two custom abilities too
jen'ari
2/23/2018 3:15:09 AM

or just add a "can only be one in each squad" onto Espionage or something
Lord_Ball
2/23/2018 1:27:42 PM

They aren't terribly hard hitters even with daala, using a bunch isn't likely to be a sound strategy, given their low defense/survivability, but I will lower their attack to +3 to make them less threatening.
shmi15
2/23/2018 7:37:43 PM

I'm more concerned right now with swapping end of round 1 and putting anyone you want in your enemies starting space. It would be worth it to run 2/3 of these guys to set up a good swap. I think it could be to deadly to be honest.
blemelisk
2/23/2018 9:32:26 PM

With infiltration are you risking the chance that the character will be targeted as it is more probable that your opponents pieces do not have line of sight to any other of your own pieces?
Lord_Ball
2/23/2018 10:13:03 PM

It's a small base so no swap worries.
Lord_Ball
2/23/2018 10:27:39 PM

It is a risk, but that is why it's not required to setup in the enemy area, just an option.
blemelisk
2/25/2018 3:33:31 AM

I find it interesting, but, what benefits would it be otherwise to have him back there? Well obviously recon would be guaranteed, but otherwise? (you could have thought of things I havent :P )
Lord_Ball
2/25/2018 6:30:24 PM

Well a lot of why would you would be determined by the map. If it's a more open map, you've really got nothing to lose, or if you feel you can get to a position of safety it would also be useful.
swinefeld
2/26/2018 3:32:17 AM

Very useful, in certain situations. GM Tarkin + Thrawn swap + juiced-up Jawa Trader = dead Doombot, on turn one. Good luck with maps, tho, and squad reveal is simultaneous on top of that, so good luck with setup. Existential threat is enough to make me like this. LB, you could add an obscure small alien species to the name just for fun, though clearly not important. :)
