Special Abilities

  • Structure (Cannot be brought into a squad after setup. Cannot move or be moved. Is not subject to commander effects. Damage cannot be removed from this character. Attacks against this character cannot be prevented or redirected.)
  • Point of Dispute (During setup, your opponent places this character anywhere on your half of the battle map.)
  • Automatic Shutdown (When this character activates, it takes 10 points of damage. This damage cannot be prevented or redirected.)
  • Carbon Freezing (After Setup, select one medium or smaller character from the opponent's squad. Deal damage to this character equal to point value of the selected character, rounded up. That character becomes frozen and cannot move, attack, use abilities, be damaged, and benefit from or provide commander effects. Place the selected character adjacent to this character. An adjacent ally may replace their attack to unfreeze the selected character. If the Bespin Carbon Freezing unit is destroyed, the selected character is unfrozen. The round in which the selected character becomes unfrozen, it is considered activated, save 11.)
  • Damage Reduction 10 (Whenever this character takes damage, reduce the damage dealt by 10. Attacks with lightsabers ignore this special ability.)

Can be used to displace and expose an otherwise backline commander, or to render a powerful character inoperable for the first few rounds of combat.

Way overpowered without a limit on Carbon Freezing. Probably needs to be "lower-cost enemy". Still very powerful, but negating a 100pt piece for half the skirmish is way too much. Cool idea, though.

Arrow, that is the danger that I will need to balance with this piece. That said, the player whose character is frozen up will decide the location of the emplacement. That allows them to leave it in a good position for any of their shooters to tackle. Every point of damage reduces the number of rounds a character would be frozen. I doubt the penalty would often exceed 2 rounds due to anyone with solid movement, or a decent shooter.

I have updated Carbonite Freezing to scale inversely with the cost of the selected character. More powerful characters will unfreeze more quickly, while less powerful ones will need to be unfrozen.

Interesting idea and points for choosing an outside the box idea. I really think you should change the wording to "deal damage to this character equal to the hit points of the chosen character. That way you couldn't pick an overpowered enemy piece. Also since it's the Bespin unit specifically you could safely make it unique and help prevent imbalance from bringing multiples of this guy.
