I am planning on going to this again this year. Had a ton of fun last year and so did my friend Brandon who came with me. Prepare to be invaded by 2 (maybe more) Minnesotan's again! BigGrin

I'm going to do everything I can to get to this. It would be my first real tournament so I would need somebody to play a few practice games with me. I play very casual with my friends.
goes something like this:

ME: "what map do you want to play on"
Friend: "I don't care, whatever you grab, just not something that is wide open"
ME: [rummages around in toolbox] "How about this map"
Friend: "That's fine. What faction you using?"
ME: "Probably Sith'
Friend: "Ok, I'll use Republic then."
Me: "you care which side you are on"
Friend: "shouldn't matter too much"

We don't really have any specific reason for doing this, but I guess it's to make sure we have an enjoyable game.

I guess the bottom line is, If I can go, would somebody be willing to mentor me a little about the actual etiquette of tournament play?

Thanks

Do you play on Vassal? I could definitely help you with getting some practice games in on that before the tournament.

The thing about being successful in tournaments is being efficient with your time. If your squad is requiring to many saves or has too many activations, it lowers the chances you'll have at getting a 3pt win and also a 1pt loss, even tho you may end up getting the 2pt win. 3pt wins are what gets you to the finals and then 2pt wins matter from then on. The tournament rounds are 1 hour long and it definitely helps to know your squad and map well beforehand and that way you can plan your moves out and adjust to your opponents tactics better.

No problem; we can do that.

Or join us in two weeks for the LBB 5:

It's a lower stress version.

One thing I would like to add. If this is your first "real" tourney make sure you are prepared mentally. I would hate to see someone lose interest in the game because they go to a Regional and get blasted all day thinking they were going to win it all or even "have a good showing". I was prepared for my 1st Regional, and it didn't disappoint. I had a great time, but it was not pretty. I had a better showing at Frosty. The Dice, not my squad or prep, were my issue this time.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, have fun most of all. Even when you are getting it handed to you, have fun. Everyone is there to help you, if you are willing to listen and learn. Good Luck if you go.

well i got some good/bad news. Good news is my parents are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary and all my family is coming up to visit. Bad news....its the last weekend of June, so unfortunately I won't be able to attend this years Wisconsin regional. Really bummed out about this, but happy at the same time to celebrate with my parents their 40th. Hope you all have a good turnout this year! I'll hopefully be back for Wisconsins 2017 regional.

Map list question:

You posted A, B and C for map list before the new map list came out (curious why D was left off).

Will the legal map list be the NEW A,B and C . . . Or the old A,B and C? They are very different.

Ummm, searching on the forum here, I can find last year's A,B,C,D. Where is the new list?

Eight maps were dropped, four completely new ones were added, one old one was brought back.

A complete list of what maps will be legal at this regional will be very helpful.

Thanks for the link. That is not the subject line I would have guessed.

We'll use the current A, B, and C.

Certainly not an ideal title.

Tim, since you have a good number of younger gamers, I know in the past your main objective was to have them be able to use the maps that have been using and are prepared with. Just so you know, a good number of those are off the list now. Best make sure they are all aware so they are not surprised on Saturday.

Look forward to seeing you then!

Yup, my bad on that. I post topics so infrequently (once a year) that I've come to assume people know what it is--and they normally get stickied anyway. This one was late to top it off. I'll make sure I had something like (Restricted Map list) to any future titles--can't edit this one.

Likewise.

And would the Chi-Town crew mind bringing a batch of legal maps? Logan, for example, would like to use knight's enclave or gangster's vault and I can't find those.

I think I never received my Map Pack 6. The last e-mail I'd sent to Matt about it bounced back as undeliverable.

I will have some of map pack 6.

Tim bought some extras for Chicago and is selling them at cost ($5 each) and I have some as prize support as well.

I am sorry to say real life rolled a crit on me. It apparently has ruthless attack, so I can't negate the damage. In addition it has snare rifle and paralysis, so I am left activated and cannot move until the end of the round.

In other words, I can't make it to the regional. I am bummed, but other things are more important at the moment. I hope everyone has a great time!
