Greetings Force Users,

Ok, let's face it. The Vong are nasty, and with any more future improvements, without more counters, such as Vongsense, Vong Hunter, etc., or errata ( yeah, I'm looking at you 10pt Lah Warriors ) they will be at the top, a unstoppable "Force" to reckon with ( no pun intended ). Now according to the new Star Wars storyline, the Vong are no longer "Canon", ( ducking my head, as Vong lovers "Blast Bug" me to death ). But that is a debate for another day/post. With all this being said, what are the games best counters? Can someone go through each faction, showing what minis/builds, are able to compete with these buggers, given that they are now showing up in spades at Regionals. Thanks in advance everyone.................................

Double Lancer still is good vs a Domain Lah swarm. That is just one of the things I could think of quickly. 40 HP doesn't help you much when a lancer strafes over you 2 times with twin attack.

Nom Anor has Disruptive, so won't work against that Vong build.

Plus, aren't there cheap Vong minis with Distraction now, that can be brought in via reinforcements, etc?

Tso Asu with Defensive Reactions is the Vong Lancer defense.

Can you post a specific squad you want to counter?

How about one to counter "Charging Lah Warriors" and one to counter "Blast Bugs" the variety where almost the entire team has "Blast Bug".

Andre won last yrs CA regional with Vong, and I won the year before that. I don't want Vong to win again this year Adam :) I'd be super surprised if we don't see at least one Vong squad on Saturday. Best to be prepared my friend. Boy Scouts credo :)

I'm shocked and appalled that you're A) Not running Vong yourself and B) worried that Andre would run the same Vong squad again. You haven't played his Vong squad and beaten it since?

No there are lots of counters. Just depends on what squad types you want to play and what faction(s) you want.

I think Mando the Vindicated is a very tough matchup for the Vong.

You can play Cloaked Shooters or the Covert Ops/Parry guy.

So just reinforcing my post, the Indiana Regional had 9 participants, and Vong placed 2nd and 6th, with the 6th place guy being a 12 yr old! ( See Below )

1. Jason Skybuck w/ Marn
2. Mike Nom Amor Executor BB
3. Les Double Lancer
4. Laura Cinn & Serra w/Marn
5. Greg Vader Lothal, Sid SM, Boba AfH
6. Dillon (12 yo. kid) Quoreal & BB
7. Shawn Vader Lothal, Sideous SM,
8. Randy GOWK & 501st
9. Bryan Vader Lothal w/ Nightsisters

As you all can see, Mike's Nom Squad, placed ahead of Les's "Double Lancer" and Laura's Cinn & Serra w/ Marn squad.

The Vong are here folks, and are a Force "Immunity" to reckon with!

What is wrong with a 12 year old doing well? Last year (or it may have been 2 years ago), the same kid won the Royal rUmble Tournament. Dillon knows what he is doing and how to play his squad well.

There have been alot of younger players who have done well. Phillip was what 16 (or 17) when he made Top4 at Gencon? Brandon was 17 I Think, DAniel wasn't much older when he won. Alex has done well in various tournaments at Gencon the last few years and I Think he is 15 or 16.

I never said that there was anything wrong with it! I just mentioned the age, because "DarkDracul" mentioned it in his post. Smile

The point I was trying to make is that the Vong are strong, and I wanted some ideas on how to deal with them. I also think the balance committee has some work to do, but that's been discussed in the "any more ideas for the balance committee?" post in "SWM General" section.
