I like Boris' suggestion...GOWK with No Mettle + Soresu Style Mastery (When this character is hit by an attack from a nonadjacent enemy or by a melee attack, it takes no damage with a save of 11.)

However, I'm also curious how the following options would work:

Soresu Style Mastery (When this character is hit by an attack from a nonadjacent enemy, it takes no damage with a save of 11. When this character is hit by an attack from a melee attack, it takes no damage with a save of 16.) + Mettle or No Mettle or Mettle (where Mettle can't stack)

or

Soresu Style Mastery (When this character is hit by an attack from a nonadjacent enemy, it takes no damage with a save of 11. When this character is hit by an attack from an adjacent attack, it takes no damage with a save of 16.) + Mettle or No Mettle or Mettle (where Mettle can't stack)

The alternative options with Mettle obviously provide better defense against nonadjacent attacks than Boris' suggestion, but they also require GOWK to burn through more force points in order to have a comparable melee defense.

they are good ideas, yea. but do not expect anything to come of them.
and with that said, do not expect to see GOWK in Tourneys, ever.
my only suggestion is for wizards to get it right the first time. make something to counter devestating effects. they did it with Desintegration, they can do it with GOWK. Dooku of Sereno can whoop on GOWK all day, but nobody wants to use Dooku. thats fine, thats their choice. but im tired of this "we can do this with him, we can do that".
it is my feeling that people who wanted GOWK banned, couldnt come up with a squad to take him or his followers out. i have three different squads that have pulverized GOWK squads, including a DD. it can be done, its just a matter of doing it.

Lol, couldn't be farther from the truth.

Actually, many of us who wanted him banned are the very people trying to work with WotC to fix him so we can unban him next update.

i just dont see there being any repairs for him. there are too many categories on his card to fix. and too many people want certain things fixed. i just see him staying banned (though i still think he shouldnt be). but in a sense, i can understand opponents frustration when facing him.

Before anything else is attempted, Mettle needs to be changed so that it does not stack. It should not stack, thereby being consistant with the rest of the game. After that, my suggestion is as follows:

Soresu Style Mastery (Twice per turn, when this character is hit by an attack, the damage can be prevented with a save of 11)

I think this is a very simple way to address SSM. It is still equally good against melee & nonmelee. It changes the wording the least and retains Mettle and MotF2. Yet it shows the concept of his defenses being overwhelmed (triple and quad attackers). As an example, Capt. Rex quads on GOWK. GOWK can use SSM twice that turn, the other two attacks are resolved normally.

If the piece is fixed it will probably cause just as much uproar as when it was banned. There are so many ideas on how to fix it someone is going to be mad and post about it.

I like the idea of GOWK quite a bit, but I think the execution could be improved. What does that make me?
