TimmerB123 over Mando 221-40 (3-0)

A bad matchup on paper for Trevor was made worse after I won map roll and then won the 2 major key inits. Insult to injury I also stole Ambush, Double, Careful and Deadeye with the Yammosk. I brought in a PV Priest and another Worker

Round 1 He wins init and we ran everyone toward the center. He used Gideon to pull a 3rd Generation Dark trooper up and then it ran forward to base my Lah warrior.

round 2 I won init and the Lah Warrior easily took out his Dark Trooper with double twin careful deadeye. Some dancing around a narrow hallway. I run a Lah Warrior in who gets swiped by a DT to get scarred, and put 60 on Gideon. Palpatine runs by 2 of my Lah warriors to get in the middle of it all, taking AoOs. I didn't get any bonuses due to Brainiac, but I rolled a crit - 40 damage, which in very Palpatine-like fashion he gave to Brainiac with absolute devotion. We finish the round with me having 2 injured Lah warriors based to Palpatine and the other 3rd Gen DT.

Round 3 - big init and I win. Lah warrior goes with shaper, scarification, double, twin, deadeye, careful shot, and synergy. +18s for 40 x 4. Hit them all. Palpatine takes 80, kills Brainiac with absolute devotion, and I crit AGAIN, which he sends to Gideon killing him. Palps's at 90. Then he takes out both Lah Warriors and a worker using Dark Assault, and moves his 3rd Gen DT to attack Khalee (made both save 2 Crab Armor saves) to bring Khalee down to 50. I stand still with Khalee to "only" do 60 damage (he made 1 of 2 saves to make it 50 damage), intentionally not killing it. So that I could use Tsavong Lah to move (he takes the hit to get scarred), and move to finish off the droid, which gets me cleave and rolling cleave. I use Yun-Yammka to auto-hit Palp for 40, then roll the 2s or higher I needed to finish him off.

Always great playing and chatting with Trevor. Having a lot of fun this tournament.

thereisnotry defeats Gandalf 232-146 (3-1)

We both had Rancor Pen as our map, and Gandalf 'won' the map roll so I chose to set up first (on the left).

Round 1: I advanced my people toward the gambit area, out of LOS (so I thought). After I was activated, Talia used Invisibility Potion to (effectively) give 4 free movement to a Hunter. Bastilla used ABM, and something else advanced, then Talia and the Hunter re-appeared, and that Hunter moved 12 squares up to be within 6 of his Mouse, and in LOS of Vindicated...not good! Talzin gave the cannon-shot to that Hunter, who put 30 dmg on Vindicated (missed the other attack, even with the fprr).

Round 2: Gandalf won init. I figured that he relies on Opportunist and can also only activate 1 piece, so I used Resolnare to position my guys in aggressive positions. Silri came up to put 60dmg on Jango (20 base + ABM for 10 more) with a twin Light Whip), followed by a Drain Life that Jango (70hp) sidestepped but Vindicated took damage from (10 after beskargam). Jango then used Furious Assault to shoot 7 targets: both Hunters, the Brother, Silri, Talzin, 2 mice...hitting everything except one of the mice. Vindicated then erased the Hunter who had shot him in the previous round, and put 30dmg on Silri. Talzin zapped Jango for 10 after beskar, then the cannon shot allowed the remaining Hunter to put more damage into Vindicated, bringing him down to 30hp. At this point the Nightbrother charged in for the kill on Vindicated, but he was saved by his beskargam (10hp). Kelborn finished that dude off, and then Mira did her nasty-nades thing, bringing Silri down to 20hp. Talia charged forward to hit Jango, bringing him to 30. The Hunter then used Deadeye (40dmg attacks), missing her first 2 attack rolls but hitting on the fprr for the kill. My Tactician finished off Silri (needing just 1 of his attacks to hit). Gandalf moves the rest of his people forward (including Bastilla because she's now at 2fp and so she can't activate ABM again). Big init coming up: Jango is dead, Vindicated is at 10. If I lose this init it's likely game over for me.

Round 3: I won init! ABM is off so my Tactician allows me to activate 3 people. Vindicated kills Talia (after shooting the Ug that jumped in front of her at the end of the previous round), then uses his CE to push Mira up, who spends a FP to move 8, allowing her to grenade Talzin and the Mouse (the mouse died) first and then the remaining Hunter second (took 20), and then hide beside Vindicated in one of the beast pens. My third activation was Kelborn, who just needed to hit one of his 2 Cunning shots to kill the Hunter (success). Talzin came out for a revenge-zap on Vindicated and Mira. She took some fire from the Tactician, and I moved my Demolitionist up to base Talzin. Bastilla moved up to bring the pain for next round.

Round 4: I won init again, so Mira tossed double-nades at Talzin...that ended with a dead Talzin, dead Demolitionist, and an untouched Bastilla. Kelborn reached out and smacked her twice with his Gauntlet Knife, bringing her to 50 (failed the LS Defense). The Tactician missed horribly. I was already over 200 at this point, so Bastilla just went for the kill on the Tactician (aoo from Kelborn for 20dmg more).

As I figured it would be, this was a big bloody mash-up...I had to make it that way. I couldn't afford to let Gandalf set up too many end-of-round cannon shots with his cloaked shooters, so I had to take the fight to him. I knew Jango would die sooner or later (it ended up being sooner), but he did enough damage before then that I was able to turn the tables after ABM ended. This one easily could've gone the other way, especially if I would've lost init at the start of round 3. Thanks for the game, Gandalf!

urban jedi defeats urbanshmi 200-132

I won map and we played on theed.

She took the left.

This game had some of the most awful rolling I have seen in a long time. I set up cognus in the middle by the nexus and easy pathed and then ran cognus into the meat of her squad. Cognus kept missing Lando, while Han, chewie and the rest of her squad just coudln't hit cognus. Even with multiple init wins and Han going first Cognus just refused to die.

This let Zannah and Tulak mosey up the board to finally get into the battle, and wyyrlock even chipped in with an early lightning to finish off lando.

Some of the damage finally started sticking, and characters started dropping. Most of the scrubs had died early, finally cognus dropped. Zannah corrupted luke to kill him, but also hit herself and leia. Leia made the save to live.

Another won init and Han was able to drop tulak after some missed SSM saves. Wyyrlock came around the corner to lightning again (had gotten FP from the nexus), and zannah made her corruption save before finally finishing off Han.

This game was fairly close through with the many missed attack rolls by Laura adding up. At the end it was a half health Zannah (with only 1fp) and a 10hp wyyrlock left. Every other character had been defeated. If some of those missed attacks had hit, it could have easily been Laura's win.

UrbanShmi over TimmerB123 208-145 (3-1) on Rancor Pen.

I won map roll and Tim set up on the left. The first round was positioning, then Son of Skywalker used his insane end of round movement +attacks to kill a couple of Lah Warriors
(combo of attacks and Enraged Reactions). Luke only had 40 HP left, so he ran away at the top of the round. There was more moving up, and then Han put 40 on an unactivated Quorreal. Tim did his best to put stuff in my way, but I had enough shots to clear them out. Top of round four, I put 80 damage on Tsavong with Han Shot First. Tsavong took an AOO from Han (taking him down to 10), to put a YYD on Juno, then killed Han with his Cleave+the second attack. Then died. The rest was pretty bloody, as Chewie soaked up a lot of damage for Luke and Leia, but ultimately, the Rebels were able to overcome the Lahs.

Great game, and glad to see my Vassal dice have not completely abandoned me. Always a pleasure to play Tim.

seeing as we had 1 player drop and that created an unfortunate side effect where Timmerb123 won't have an epic game in game#7 because of the bye week, I wanted to see if everyone would be ok with having game #8 be Swiss pairings to determine the matchups for all players, then2 extra games #9 and #10 for playoffs for the top 4 players (game #9) and the final 2 (game #10) to determine the overall winner. I don't want anyone to be excluded from playing in the epic round and so I thought this might be the most fair way to ensure that everyone gets to play at least 1 game of epics in round 4. The top 4 players at the end of Round 4 will then compete in the playoffs to determine the overall winner, similar to how a regular tournament is run. What is everyone's thoughts on this modification of the format?

Seems fine to me. I won't be competing for the top 4 anyway, but more minis is good.

thereisnotry defeats Mando 250-140 (3-1)

Mando won the map roll so we played on Theed; I set up on the left side, and Mando set up to the north of the Senator's Office room area.

Round 1: basic advancement, no attacks yet. I had Jango in gambit.

Round 2: Jango used FA to hit all of Mando's guys...he got a crit on Palpy, but he used Abs Devotion to let the crit fall on Brainiac, who then also took a hit from Jango to disappear. Mando moved Gideon up to open the door, and then Gideon's CE pulled a 3rd-Gen DT up, who then ran up to Mira for a hit and a crit, bringing her to 10hp. Vindicated then shot Gideon to death (including a crit) and put some damage on the trooper. Kelborn and Mira both went after that trooper too, but they had blindfolds on and didn't accomplish much. Palpy charged in to base Mira and Kelborn to set up for a nasty Force Storm 5 the next round.

Round 3: I won init and pulled Kelborn to safety (albeit after taking 60dmg from aoo's) and position my Tactician behind Vindicated. I shot Palpy twice and couldn't do anything else to him with Mira and Kelborn. Mando then used his other 3rd-Gen DT to kill my Tactician (taking an aoo from Vindicated on the way), and the other DT finished off Mira. Jango did another FA after taking some damage from the DT Phase 1. Kelborn couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. For his last activation Mando made a good move to give up the aoo to Kelborn and then run adjacent to Vindicated and Zap him for 50dmg. With my Tactician dead, that meant that Vindicated was toast if Mando won init...

Round 4: ...which he did. Goodbye, Vindicated. Jango used FA again to finish off one of the 3rd-Gen DTs, and Kelborn finished the other (Cunning + Gauntlet Knife). Now it was down to Palpy (50hp) and Jango (120hp) and Kelborn (30hp).

Round 5: Mando won this init, so he zapped Jango for 50dmg (down to 70) and stun. Kelborn hit once, briniging Palpy to 20hp. Palpy is now out of FP. If Mando wins the next Init he can't do his big lightning things, but he can do Dark Assault 3, which would be more than enough to kill both Jango and Kelborn.

Round 6: I win init! That allowed Jango to finish off Palpy.

What a barn-burner of a game! At the end there it was very touch-and-go. I was ahead by getting rid of Gideon early, but Palpy just wouldn't die, and that gave Mando a chance to bring the game right down to the wire. Good stuff! Good times playing with Mando, as always.

If we play more games I would suggest adding pieces to make the total 500pts for the last 2 rounds. I think it would fit the escalation theme and allow for more fun with new friends in your squad. Or if you want to make it a little less obnoxious maybe you can add 3 more pieces up to a maximum of 500pts?

I would like to keep the extra 2 games for the playoffs using the exact squads players had in round 4 in order to determine who has the best overall squad for GE. I appreciate the suggestion tho! I wanted to have this tournament to keep its focus on how you built your squad up over 4 rounds to deal with your opponents. adding more activations would change things up a bit to much to say definitively that the best squad won the whole tournament.

Then never allow Thereisnotry in your tournament. He wins without playing the best squad and ruins everything.
