Special Abilities

  • Unique
  • Assassin (+4 Attack and +10 Damage against living enemies)
  • Gain Trust (Replaces turn: Until the end of this character's next turn, he does not count as a legal target or the nearest enemy, does not provoke attacks of opportunity, and is not subject to commander effects that grant immediate attacks.)
  • Programmed Target (After setup, choose any 1 enemy. This character gets +4 Attack and Accurate Shot against the chosen enemy.)
  • Shapeshifter (If this character does not have line of sight to an enemy at the end of its turn, it can't be targeted by nonadjacent enemies until the start of its next turn)
  • Sniper (Other characters do not provide cover against this character's attack)
  • Tracker (While this character can count range to the enemy it chose for Programmed Target, it has Speed 8)

X-7 was a Human male assassin created by Rezi Soresh in an experiment to make the perfect assassin. During the course of a mission, he would relentlessly pursue his target.

Wouldn't it be easier to use Accurate instead of Programmed? Regarding Trust, so if he attacks, he's a target ... but as long as he's just moving he's Not a target? Regarding Blank, its the "cannot be affected by Force Powers" that makes me nervous, but I'm ok with everything else.

I like that Gain Trust "expires" very cool. overall pretty cool design.

my only real complaint is that X-7 can proximity mines someone for 40 and than the target gets adjacent and attacks him and than Imps win init and he Gains Trust and can't be targeted.... even though he just mined or shot someone.

I agree with Jenari about the Porximty MInes. I like where your going with this, a full on Assassin. Another Sniper in Imps is rough... This guy and Arica and Thrawn would make a pretty mean combo. He does have 7 SA tho? I thought the limit this week was 6?

Whoops! I just read where you asked about Unique, I assumed it did count, as it was not stated in the rules when he posted what did, and didn't count against the character building.

Thanks for the feed back! I'll start here - Force Blank: "As noted by Jedi Knight Ferus Olin, X-7 was noted as having a hollowed body, with the Force flowing around him, rather than through him. This was the first and only known incident of such a phenomenon occurring artificially." Not sure what to do with that for game play purposes.

Just riffing off Wook mostly, but he wasn't a Dark-Sider concealing himself, he essentially had no connection to the Force, so as I see it would not prevent enemies from 'responding' with a power except where part/all of the response would directly affect him using that power. So damage prevention, anything that generates an attack and so forth would still work. Also doesn't say he can't be targeted with powers, more or less ignores them (but others around him wouldn't for AoE stuff). Too crazy? I could add a save for the Force user to 'hit' him.

The Force Powers explanation makes sense, but the fact that it Wouldn't feel like its in the force would make me suspicios of it ... and somehow Force Lightning sounds like it should still hit him or any other force like power that's not "Invisible;" I don't see how Lightning would go around it ... Base stats 14; Assasin 3 (17) Target 3 (20) Sniper 1 (21) Mines (4) 25 (give or take 1-2 because you're racking up pricy abilities and I'm not even sure what to say about Blank or Trust. How would you price them? Unless they're negatives .......

Still thinking about Blank. As to Sniper, he was one. (also a Pilot, but dropped that for SA count, and GARY reasons). With Opp from Thrawn he has one 40dmg shot vs living at +16/+20 against the PT. PT seemed loosely thematic "During the course of a mission, he would relentlessly pursue his target." rather than having Accurate all the time.

I could drop P-Mines to 20 to help with cost. Much less tempting to use then, since its 50/50 to do 10 dmg, vs +12/30 attack most of the time. Or drop Mines for that Tracker SA I made a while back.

Updated. In his context, Blank is sorta covered by Gain Trust, so dropped it for Tracker (updated flavor text). Lowered P-Mines to 20. Now he can spend Throne Palp's force points (lol) but no weird interactions with enemy powers to worry about. Yes, Gain Trust allows some shenanigans, but that's sorta the point. ;) Thoughts?

Is Tracker Board wide? Like if round 1, I can count 36 squares to the target, does he get Speed 8? Is it kinda like Booming Voice in that aspect?
swinefeld

Yes, if you can trace an open path to the PT. If PT is in a closed room, no.

Base stats 18; PT, Assassin, 3 each (24) Mines 2 (26) Sniper 1 (27) so now the question is how do You value Trust and Tracker (Love Tracker by the way :) ) Reason I limited it to six abilities is sometimes you have to make hard choices ....
swinefeld
2/22/2018 7:37:34 PM

Thanks Surf :) Difficult choices indeed. Not sure what those SAs are worth, but seems clear I'll have to dial his stats down a notch or two no matter what. Trust could be very useful, but you do have to give up a turn and wait to make your move. Hmm.

Now the 27 pts is of course +/- 5 according to creators choice on aggressive costing; you go full bore aggressive and you're down to 22 before your new abilities. What you decide they're worth tells you what may need to be cut down a little. Two points each for Tracker n Trust? 26 pts, Trim to 70 HP or 17 D; your tough choices as always. Tracker/Trust only worth combined 3? You're golden.

I spent some time today looking at external boosts for this guy. Not much there, but the main ones are significant. IE Thrawn, Daala, and a couple 70+ Vaders. Big differences with how this guy would play between Thrawn and Daala (since they can't be played together). He has no defensive abilities whatsoever beyond replacing his turn for Trust. The best you could get otherwise would be the RBSV, lol. Swap would seem to be the most effective, but I don't want to build him specifically towards that. Just some thoughts.

More thoughts. As far as ability costs, IMO, PT is not worth 3 as it is only useful against 1 enemy. Sniper is worth 2 situationally. Accurate can't hit Cloaked, Sniper can if cover is only from another character. Tracker is more consistently useful while the PT is alive, but dependent on map, and tactics. Both PT and Tracker are irrelevant once that 1 enemy is dead. Still in the hmm...phase here. ;)

PT at cost 3 is also probably situtional depending on target. Worth more against a Vader less so against an Uggie .... So, if PT & Tracker are one trick ponies, is there an alternate that gives you more bang for the buck for what you intend to be the pieces ultimate goal.

Interesting design, very super assassin. Big concern is gain trust if you thrown swap this guy into Gambit and use it every turn. I don't think there should be a 100% safe way to get Gambit. I guess area effect Repulses/scream can still damage him and it does replace his turn. Anyways that's about all I got, I'm assuming Tracker "counting range" is any range? As long as they're not behind a door somewhere?
swinefeld
2/23/2018 3:49:16 AM

GG: yes, Tracker requires having an open path to the PT. Everyone: not really making this piece to be "competitive" per se, but hoping to balance him against serious abuse. I hadn't considered gambit, but yes, any AoE stuff will damage him, or splash effects so long as he's not the target while Trust is active.

Unpublished version before it was altered for this CCC was probably a mid-40s+ character, way more complicated... still is a tad complicated, but slowly gelling, in my warped mind anyway. ;) P-Mines gone for Shapeshifter, a smidge of pseudo-defense. He personally surgically altered his own face to avoid being ID'd when needed and along with being a Force Blank (dropped earlier) was able to infiltrate the Rebel Alliance. Elusive in a non-standard way. Still have 2 custom SAs per requirements. Stats, tempted to drop to 10 dmg because Daala.

I like this guy, seems pretty useful, and the theme of the character is represented well.

Interesting, but....is it a bit under priced? (could be wrong here)
swinefeld

@Blem, 'a bit under' probably so. I plan to lower his stats, but probably nothing else at this point. It's been an interesting journey trying to sort this guy.

Base 15, Assassin 3, PT 2-3, Sniper 1, SS, 1-2 so 23-25 ... realisticly 18-26 =/- so around 22-23 Without you custom abilities. Back to the original question. How do you value them??
swinefeld
2/25/2018 5:19:56 AM

Given his limitations, Tracker no more than 2, Trust no more than 2. (either could easily be worth more on a stronger character). Thanks!
